ART The Art I course is a basic program of a year’s duration for all students on the Annual Plan. The objective of this program is to present the fundamental ideas of creativity and to help the student relate himself more to life by show- ing the relationship between art and the environ- ment in which he lives. Students are introduced to the problems of communication throught non-verbal, visual sym- bols, and the curriculum gives them an oppor- tunity to express themselves creatively, to ex- plore, to discover and heighten their talents be- fore approaching more intensive problems if they choose to major in art. The course consists of experimentation with different tools and materials using the basic elements of design, color, and texture, to create works of art in drawing, painting, sculpture, lettering, and print making. One of the purposes of studying art is express ideas and feelings. Here students point to examples of their work. 24

LIBRARY Tilden’s library is one of the most helpful facilities offered to the students. Since last year the library has grown considerably in reference books, fiction and non-fiction books, pamphlets dealing with current events, and popular and professional magazines. Certainly the knowledge obtained from these books is truly beyond price. Typing students, under the guidance of Miss Evanoff, take a speed-typing test. Tilden students take advantage of the re- source material in the library. TYPING More and more boys have been selecting typing as an elective. They find that the ability to type is useful not only in preparing class papers but will also be a great asset in later life. Miss Olga Evanoff Mrs. Willa Brown Mrs. Daisy Lloyd Mrs. Lyle Starecvic
