ENGLISH Mrs. June Waser Mr. Charles Logan Mrs. Dorothy Manahan Mr. Robert Warzynski Mrs. Margaret Morrison Mr. Keith Burmeister J. Phillips talks to his public speaking class about the dangerous situation in South Viet Nam. One of the most stressed and necessary subjects at Tilden is English, which is required throughout the student’s four years of high school. The object of this is to develop not only the writing and speak- ing abilities of the average Tildenite but also to increase his knowledge of great literature. Originality in English is constantly being stressed by the teachers at Tilden. They also impress upon the students that colleges throughout the country are demanding more and more of their students in the many different fields of English, and that their future occupations will depend on their individual abilities to write and speak effectively. 12

SCIENCE The emphasis of science in our lives today is tremendous and in the future will be even more so. To meet these challenges one must have a good science background, and at Tilden the students receive just this. In his freshman year, the student is given gen- eral science or biology, depending on his entrance examination results. In general science he is in- structed in the basic fundamentals of science, and in biology all the mysteries of living things are revealed to him. In his junior year he takes physics where he discovers the behavior of inert matter and energy and the laws governing their inter- actions. When he becomes a senior, he is given chemistry as a requirement, the science that deals with the composition of matter and the changes which it undergoes. Three years of science on the road to graduation can be quite severe; but when the graduate has finally received his diploma, he knows that he will be able to face this scien- tific world of ours with little or no trouble. R. Engram, R. Doris, R. Lindsey, and W. O’Malley work to- gether on an experiment in Tilden’s chemistry laboratory. t L. Tate checks his display for the Science Fair once more to see if everything is working perfectly. 14
