'potlic lit. • • This year we spotlight Joe Tilden, as he strides through the halls, head high, humming the latest tune, wearing his sweater of gold and blue. Under his arm he carries a drawing board, or a big lunch bag, perhaps his shop apron, his bath towel, or, if a senior, civics and chem notebooks. Joe is busy every minute of the day, he is active, he is interested in everything that goes on at Tilden. Is there an assembly today? Tilden will win that game Saturday! Who said we would have a test in physics? Student Council meeting fourth period. Jane said she would be there for our wrestling matches. This is our Joe. Why is he here at Tilden? He chose his school. He wants an education which will prepare him for college or for business or a specialized technical field. He wants to be with boys like himself; girls are part of his after-school or week-end life. He wants to attend the school from which his father or uncle or brother or cousin was graduated. He wants to be part of the tradition of manliness, champion- ship teams, college attendance, excellence in technical production for which Tilden is known. We present our Joe to you as the spotlight is focused on him throughout the year. He strives for higher goals, wins honors in athletic achievement and obtains scholas- tic awards. In changing from freshman to senior he serves in a number of activities: as guard, club member, Student Council representative, team participant; he works for Tech Times or Craftsman, plays in Band, sings in Chorus, marches in R.O.T.C., and wins a letter. Within four short years he steps into the spotlight many times and then leaves Tilden to go on to larger fields where we watch for him to appear once more, our Joe, in the spotlight. 6
