At the halfway mark of the 20th cen tury, we, the class of 1950, survey the past and view the future with renewed hope of the promise of man's progress for a better and more enlighten- ed world. Our foundations, our beginnings are in the shadows of the past, from which we have inherited much opportunity to equip ourselves for the future. We understand our responsibility to make the most of our heritage and to use it to build a better world. Tilden offers excellent opportunities to students who wish to prepare for college or strive for success in a chosen vocation. Clubs and organizations work in perfect harmony for the promotion of high scholastic standards and demo- cratic equality. Through these organizations stu- dents plan and present assemblies durinq the school year hiah-lighting student achievements of many kinds. The role played by clubs is indeed of great importance because it installs the spirit of democracy in members. Students belonging to championship athletic teams or taking part in the intramural pro- gram develop strong, healthy bodies, keen mental- ity and the teamwork urgently needed to make world urrity a reality. Academic courses are generalized: during four years at Tilden a student comes in contact with many phases of science, mathematics, literature, art, music and social studies which offer him an excellent opportunity to make a wise choice of his vocation. We now eagerly face the horizon of the future, poised, ready to take our place there. At Tilden our preparation has been well-planned and carried out. We advance hopefully with a keen desire to participate and contribute our skills and services to build permanently a future that will be peaceful, democratic, useful, and happy . . . a future worthy to be preserved for those who follow us.
