T1lde'1 Technical High School offers a wide variety of shops to students In the freshman sophomore and junior years there is a tech sequence to be followed This sequence consists of wood pattern foundry forge and machine shops In wood shop students are taught the funda mental skills on which all other shop work is based This shop gives training in the use and care of hand tools and power machinery In pattern shop the boys apply their knowledge of WCOdVJOI'klX'g to the making of patterns that are used in the foundry The patterns are made to exact SPGCIII ations After the patterns are finished the foundry uses them for moulding in foundry shop In forge shop stu dents learn to shape a pre e of metal that has been heated 1n a forge furnace The last shop in the tech sequence is machine Thi is wher one learns to operate a power driven metal lathe and other power machlnery which turn out accurate yobs They are al o taught the u e of such tools as the micrometer caliper marking gauge and wire gauge After the tech sequerce students are permitted to make a choice between such shops as print auto aircraft print shops one hould select hand composltion press work or llnotype The work produced here compares favorably with p ofes ional printing establishments Our pr1nt shops turn out the Tllden Tech Times and all the other printed work needed a ound the school Auto shop deals with motorized vehicles the students functions are to learn the parts and how to repair them Frrcraft engines has to do with the study of a ro autlcs Here engine maintenance is taught by taking apart cleaning and examlning engines for wear Model shop permits the choice of making a model of wood such as an cur plan boat or ship or a model of any pie e of machinery In plastic shop boys can apply the krowledge of shop work th y have learned in other shops All common hand and power tools are used and there is a wide range of prolects from which to choose Weldmg plays an important part in a tude ts life as he learns repairing and general use of this c aft Electric shop has to do with electrical wiring repamrg of motors and making and repairing radios All these shops at Tilden are taught by well trained instructors whose knowledge and expenence make a boy s life at Tilden interesting O . , , . -. . e ', . ., . d ':, r. i .
