Veterans complete high school education at Tilden Jilclen Vet e runs At the close of World War II the Chicago Board of Education organized high school veterans' centers so that students who had left school to join the Armed Services might continue their interrupted education. Tilden was once more honored by being chosen for the location of the South Side High School Veterans' Center. The veterans' program is an individualized, ac- celerated program where the veteran works as fast as he can absorb the prescribed material. To es- tablish credit in a subject the veteran is required to take a test given by the Veterans' Testing Service of the Chicago City Junior College. The final grade re- ceived is the average of the teacher's estimate and the test score. Of 1179 Chicago south siders who have returned as veterans to our center, 875 have completed their courses and gone on to college or some other special- ized school. 14
