MR. H. 0. MYERS .Sf.,,.,,-.',,f.,,,,l.,,.f OF TECHNICAL WORK llll I ' Wa-ff IM' M- 4 2 T7 A 6 I The promotion of the efficient and smooth operation of Tilden's many shops is the main duty of Mr. H. O. Myers, superintendent of technical work. In addition to this tre- mendous task, Mr. Myers orders the new machinery, shop equipment, textbooks, furniture, and other miscellaneous items needed to effectively run a technical high school. Mr. Myers has the following message for Tilden students: During the many years I have had the privilege of serving at Tilden, there have never been as many opportunities for the future engineer or mechanic as have presented them- selves during the last four years. New Horizons are ap- pearing every day, and the young engineers of the future will have to be alert, active, and eager to grasp them as they appear. ,s I-s yffzwwf

MR LAKEMACHER ,ded T0 THE GRADUATES Among the many events that have occurred since the last issue of the Craftsman was the sudden defeat of our country's enemy by the use of the atomic bomb. Both scientists and laymen have been speculating as to the means by which man can harness this nuclear energy generally conceded to be the greatest power that man has ever touched. The latter is a false conception, for man has always had two greater powers, which like nuclear energy have not been used to the fullest. The first of these powers is the high type of intelligence man was endowed with, but which he has not yet placed under full control so as to derive the greatest good for all mankind. The other great power at man's disposal is faith, faith in one's self and in one's fellow men. Without faith in ourselves we are but empty shells, seemingly possessed of power, but minus that force which carries men toward ultimate success. Without faith in our neighbors. we live in a world of distrust and disagreement. He who would succeed must leam to have faith in himself and his fellow men.
