V H, I Y YJ a 'Meme Zgefmeaaion Turbulent waters have passed under the bridge. The storm is over. Quietly the great weary army moves on. This is our moment of triumphfthis is our moment of victoryfbut this is also our mo- ment of prayer. We face a world whose roots have been barbarously torn from the womb of the earth: before us lies the tasla of replant- ing those roots solidlyffirmly, so that never again will man made power of destruction dismantle our achievements. We owe this to those who strove for the preservation of the things we hold dea,-f i who gave freely of their mental and physical powers, inthe interest of our common bondfwho died in the performance of duty. We must not fail! You and I, the members of this, the first graduation class to step out into a world once more blessed with the dawn of peace, gaze retrospectively at the events of the past four yearsfthe war years. Here within these massive, protecting walls, we worlzed in- cessantly. With Tilden High as the central, directing force, our parade of efforts bore bountiful fruit. It advancedfit increased continuallyfit helped speed this day! There are not words powerful enough, nor phrases meaningful enough, to sing the praises so richly deserved by these performances. The intricate details are lznown only to us, since what our minds and bodies achieved, our hearts inspired. It is under the surface that our source of energy lay, not in a given area which can be measured by rule and accurately determined. It is under the surface that the greatest portion of our memories must remainflocleed awayg secure. The printed word can record what has been done, only roughly and inadequately, but it can record forever! Not for just the average life's span. It lives after men and nations and eras are erased from the realm of natural existence. Through the medium of these pages, therefore, we shall attempt to honor those who gave unselfishly of their time, ability, and energy so that Tilden could become interwoven in that giant pattern lznown as the war effort la is a living tribute to their accomplishmentsfthis boolz f boole is you! The Tilden Vicfory Corps made an enviable record. And whaf is far more significanf, Tilden sfudenfs and graduafes won honors for courage and bravery. Some gave fheir lives fhaf democracy, freedom and equalify of opporfunify for all-regardless of race, creed, color or religion-mighf survive and encompass fhe earfh. America and Allied Nafions now face an equally cri- fical sifuafion. Can we assure fhe people of fhe world fhaf war is ouflawed and peace assured? If we cannof, fhen we have nof won a vicfory. Billions of dollars have been spenf. Millions of persons have been forfured and lcil'ed. Cifies have been desfroyed-and all we have won is a fruce in a race befween civilizafion and cafasfrophe. This is 'rhe Vicfory Graduafing Class. Yours is fhe fask of seeing fhaf fhese fremendous sacrifices have nof been made in vain. Anofher war wifh ifs afomic bomb and wifh radio-guided missiles means fhe end of our civili- zafion. Whaf a idesolafe prospecf for civilized man! How long musf if fake before reason prevails and a world sfafe and a world cifizenship are creafed, embodying fhe idea of cooperafion for fhe welfare of all insfead of rufhless, greedy crompefifion leading fo exfreme nafionalism, fo armamenf rivalry, fo war and final desfrucfion? The world looks fo you-our Youfh-for reasoned sfafesmanship and for enduring peace. l pray fhaf we have done our iob well and fhaf you successfully meef fhe challenge. Then victory will be ours and a new brighf age will dawn for a humanify freed from poverfy, from fear, from hafred, from war. Then and only fhen will man become fruly a civilized being. Mr. Primo'FF was a charler member of Tilden's facully, and, from fhe very s'l'arl', he inilialed 'lhe eflicienl' rouline now prac- liced in 'lhe bank. As Tilden High School increased in size and imporlance, fhe 'funclions of lhe bank expanded. Accounrs for seniors classes, General Organiza- lion acfivilies, and innumerable individuals were accuralely arranged day a'F'I'er day under his vigilanl' direcfion. Wi+h 'lhe advenl' of 'l'he war, Mr. Primoff dedicaled himself 'lo l'he fremendous lask of selling war bonds and slamps. He imbued fhe sfudenfs. and feachers wilh his own e'FFervescen1' enlhusiasm, making fhem ever conscious ,of 'l'he solemn respon- sibilily of lhe people on lhe home 'fronf to 'lhe men on fhe bafllefields. Disregard- ing personal engagemenls, he was presenl' al' all school social affairs in order lo supervise supplemenlary wlar slamp sales. This service he rendered- 'wifh lhe same unselfish devolilon lhal' characferized his every deed. Through his undying e'FForls, Tilden surpassed ifs quola in each of lhd governmen'l s loan drives. ' We, 'lhe class of January '46 wish 'lo pay hommage fo Mr. Waller Primofl, beloved by al-l who knew and worked wilh him. His name well deserves a place of honor beside 'lhose who also served beyond 'lhe line of duly and paid fhe supreme sacrifice. His memory will forever remain in lhe annals of Tilden High School.
