THE SENIOR CLASSIC BOYS SPURTS QContinued from Page 211 Among the other gridders who hung up their cleats after the traditional jefferson game are: Melvin Wolper, guard, who pulled three ligaments just before the jeff tilt and was therefore unable to play, Dave Nechamen, 190- pound offensive guard and defensive tackle, and Bernie Wallsh, who played at right end before he injured his hand. lsldore Punjab Lipshitz and Lester Baron, the remaining two graduating gridders, played on the jayvee squad. The basketball squad will miss Art Rip Goldman, varsity forward, whose athletic prowess was also displayed through the junior varsity baseball nine. When we had a rifle team in '34, Art was a prominent participant. lrv Pollack is the track team's sole contribution besides Olden to this page. Pollack, who runs in the 440, relay and the high-jump, will culminate a three-year track career this term. Captain Hyman Ciitlin, Francis Andrews and Sidney Krimsky are the graduating members of the soccer squad. Citlin also was a varsity catcher on the championship nine of last semester. By virtue of booting four goals in a six-game season, Andrews is the high-scorer of the soccer eleven. The swimming team will feel the loss of Frank Caputo, Irv Kramer and Isaac Stein, veteran relay and free style merman. All three of them are fifty-yard sprinters and have come in first in their last eleven meets. ...-lil.-TQT. GIRLS' SPORTS CContinued from Page 221 was to induce the girls to join more clubs, and give them a greater appreci- ation of life. The divisions of the G.A.A. are a senior group for the early group for the early session and a junior association for the late session students. The entire organization is divided into the Blue and Gray divisions. Each student belonging to an athletic club automatically becomes a member of either team, according to her grade. This term, the Gray team which consists of students in the even terms, was awarded a silver plaque for receiving the greatest number of points. A chevron is awarded to members of the Basketball Club having at- tended eight weekly meetings. A numeral is awarded to the winning team of the basketball tournament which is usually a round-robin or elimination affair. Minor T's are awarded to those having earned three sets of numer- als. At present the eighth term' team holds the championship record for all four years. Page Twenty three

TILDEN HIGH SCHOOL ' ' X MURIEL GLAZER IDA CHAYKIN LEDA SKEBITSKY 4GlURlLS' SPURTS N previous years Girls' sports have gradually been pushed into the the background for what seems to be the more significant curricular of the school. Students have scarcely been aware that among their ranks there exist girls who have the aspirations and qualifications required of good athletes. Lest we forget, let us pause for A moment and reflect on the accomplishments of our own girls who have done so much for their school. About four years ago, in the Annex, several girls banded together to form a basketball team. Since that time, most of them have continued their athletic careers, and as a result have received chevrons, numerals, minor T's, and even major T's for their excellent work. From among the graduates we offer you nine outstanding Amazons to be your disciples. Besides gaining the coveted position of Girl Athlete, lda Chaykin was also elected president of the Girls' Athletic Association lthe office which she later relinquished! . Among the others who have succeeded in making a name for themselves are Muriel Glazer, Leda Skebitsky, Sylvia Bell, Ger- trude Abrams, Edith Hershkowitz, Blanche Kravitz, Sonia Milkman, and Ruth Yudkin. Through the tireless efforts of the entire Health Education Department, a Girls' Athletic Association was formed in both sessions. Its main purpose CContinued on Page 23D Page Twenty-two
