'I'-11? THE SENIOR CLASSIC fi s . By ED KITOGRAD After endeavoring for four years to estab- lish Tilden in the sports world, sixteen ath- letes find themselves about to be graduated. lt is the purpose of this column to record their respective athletic achievements for their chil- dren and their children's children. Topping the list of sports is football. The loss of john Principe, tackle, who was out dur- ing the year because of a toe operation, and Bernie Wallsh, spunky and hard-fighting end, - during the major part of the season proved to be the most important reasons for an unsuccessful campaign. Only once did a Blue and Cray man cross a goal line. That was in the Far Rockaway game when Bob Olden, after having received a short pass from Marty Erdman, raced 60 yards along the sidelines across the enemy's line. However, the lineman claimed that the runner had stepped out of bounds and disallowed the touchdown. ' Outstanding among the athletes are Bob Olden and Marty Erdman, both of whom ran for Class Athlete. Bob is popularly known around the school as the California Flash because of his feats on the cinder paths. He played football at Los Angeles High before coming here. His ability at snaring passes and his fleetness of foot have proved instrumental in preventing our opponents from running up larger scores than they have done. Ever since he emerged from the novice ranks in the Manual meet of january of last year ia runner breaks his novice when he wins his first medall, he has been pounding the cinders in championship style for the Blue and Gray. ln the same month he was a member of the Brooklyn-Queens championship relay squad and a member of the fifth place team in the National Relay Cham- pionship meet. Marty Erdman, the other half of the Erdman to Olden pass- ing combination, served as a quarterback during the entire season. His accuracy at pass throwing and ability to call plays were exhibited favorably time and again when he helped the eleven on sweeping down-field marches. fContinued on Page 231 Page Twenty one

TILDEN HIGH SCHOOL ' ' X MURIEL GLAZER IDA CHAYKIN LEDA SKEBITSKY 4GlURlLS' SPURTS N previous years Girls' sports have gradually been pushed into the the background for what seems to be the more significant curricular of the school. Students have scarcely been aware that among their ranks there exist girls who have the aspirations and qualifications required of good athletes. Lest we forget, let us pause for A moment and reflect on the accomplishments of our own girls who have done so much for their school. About four years ago, in the Annex, several girls banded together to form a basketball team. Since that time, most of them have continued their athletic careers, and as a result have received chevrons, numerals, minor T's, and even major T's for their excellent work. From among the graduates we offer you nine outstanding Amazons to be your disciples. Besides gaining the coveted position of Girl Athlete, lda Chaykin was also elected president of the Girls' Athletic Association lthe office which she later relinquished! . Among the others who have succeeded in making a name for themselves are Muriel Glazer, Leda Skebitsky, Sylvia Bell, Ger- trude Abrams, Edith Hershkowitz, Blanche Kravitz, Sonia Milkman, and Ruth Yudkin. Through the tireless efforts of the entire Health Education Department, a Girls' Athletic Association was formed in both sessions. Its main purpose CContinued on Page 23D Page Twenty-two
