THE SENIOR CLASSIC FEBRUARY 1933-IANUARY 1937 Commencement Day is drawing near and is involving us in a host of activities and obligationsg and yet we find ourselves constantly indulging in pleasant reminiscences of our stay at S.T.H.S. Recollections of our first days at Tilden, of our peccadilloes and derelictions, of our failures and suc- cesses crowd through our memories in our last weeks at Alma Mater. How well we recall the mixed emotions that filled our hearts on that eventful day in September i933 when first we became Tildenitesl The school was new, the faculty new, the student body new. We of the class of lanuary '37 missed the traditions and heritages handed down to us by past classes. We missed the traditional rivalry that for twenty-five years existed between Boys' High and Alexander Hamilton: we missed the spirit and color of an Erasmus-Manual football game, we missed the trophy cases gleaming with shining souvenirs of victories of our school's teams. And missing these things, we felt that we had been deprived of a goodly share of high school life. But soon we became aware of compensations for our loss. We awoke to the realization that we were to be the germ from which was to spring a new tradition-a Tilden tradition which would be handed down to future classes to revere and uphold. And we did it! We established traditions in every phase of secondary school life that will be followed by countless numbers of future Tildenites. Scholastically, we have built up a reputation that ranks with that of the best high schools in the city. Future citizens of Alma Mater will have to work hard to sustain that reputation. Socially, we have striven toward the ideal that a Tildenite is a perfect gentleman. , Physically, we have built up a reputable tradition. Our teams in the four years of our stay here. have won championships. Whether successful or not, they have carried the conception of a Tildenite with them. In victory or defeat, they remembered whom they represented and played hard but clean. . lt becomes the duty of the class of February to maintain this glorious heritage that is to be passed on to future Tildenites. In collegiate activities and in our normal life we must not forget that which we wish others to maintain. The principles we have built up in the past four years must be preserved by us. And when we come back ten and twenty years from now to cheer the team playing in the shadow of an ivy-covered building, we will point with pride to the traditions and spirit that we began when Tilden was young.
