OCTOBER Roller Derby Club attempts to bring sport to THS fans In October a young peoples singing group called Up With People came to Tigard High. They entertained the student body for a fun-filled half hour. The group mem- bers originate from each of the 50 states and from 17 countries around the world. A successful effort was put forth by several loyal students to form a roller derby team. The announcement of the first meeting in the daily bulletin started as a practical joke to liven up the morning announcements, but to the pranksters surprise there were kids that showed up for the meeting. This yearis newly formed Travel Club began fund raising projects for a Bicentennial trip this summer to the east. Activities for raising money included car washes running the concession stand and selling various products. The club started by history teacher Rod Mon- roe consisted mostly ofthe kids that he took on a tour of Western Canada the previous summer. Instead of an activity period a new meeting system was developed. All club meetings were held at the same time on alternatin days. Twenty minutes into a c ass period students were released from class to go to their meeting. Students only missed the last half of a c ass so they could at least get most new material covered that day. Teachers however found it alittle annoying having the class disrupted by students getting up to leave. The last day of the month ended with a beautiful sunny day and since it was Halloween it was only ap- propriate that costumes should be worn, Students were encouraged to dress up for the occasion but few did. -.If x Q- g -Ii, 14 FALL ACTIVITIES
