SEPTEMBER Sophomores outnumber senrors as 75 76 school year begrns Unusually hot sunny weather marked September and the opemng of school as 1191 students returned to classes Semors Wlth a class of 311 were greatly outnum bered by the Junrors wrth 410 and the sophomores wrth 470 especrally srnce many senrors drd not have a full day of classes Among the new faces of sophomores and transfer stu dents were several exchange students Greg Martmez from Rralto Calrforma D1aneCaulkms from Attrca New York and Amy Ross from New York were domestrc exchange students and came to Trgard through the AFS exchange program Naozumr Kozuka who stayed wrth Wade Lmdsay and hrs famrly came from Japan through the lnternatronal Chrrstran Youth Exchange Peter Pavek came from Sweden through the Rotary Exchange Though the school seemed to be basxcally the same several changes and add1t1ons had been made Gne such add1t1on was an outdoor lnformal resource center whrch was put mto effect rn m1d September due to some serrous efforts by the student councrl Thrs area was located 111 the courtyard between the cafeterra and the mam bu1ld1ng and prov1ded students w1th the IIISY lcrsure area for talkmg and relaxrng rn two years It proved to be very successful untrl colder weather forced students back rndoors Another add1t1on was a new scrence greenhouse Con structron began 1n early August and was completed rnlate classes especrally a new class Plant Growers Speclal FALL DRAMA Drama department presents 'You Can t Take It Wlth You Moss Hart s and George S Kaufman s You Cant Take It Wrth You turned out to be one of the most humorous THS productrons rn years The srx weeks of practrce proved ample tune for the cast to prepare for the three performances held dur1ng the thrrd week rn October Larry Daw drama teacher and drrector of the play sard The cast worked very well together and practxces went fast and smooth wh1ch helped the productron rmmensely The two mam characters rn the story were Grandpa Vanderhof Ueff Gorhamj who was a 75 year old retrree and was completely aga1nst the US system and hrs artrstrc playwrrght daughter Penny CL1sa Johnsonj who was a lrttle crazy but seemed to thrnk she had lrfe under control The whole rdea behmd the play was that money 1sn t everytlung The Vanderhofs made th1s qurte clear by showmg that there 1S more to l1fe than meets the eye Lrsa Johnson sard I really enjoyed the chance to perform and I hope everyone else drd too It s really neat to be on stage I wrsh more people would get rnvolved 7 , 3 . y - 7 3 7 .
