JV FOOTBALL Squad Looks To Future Amid paint-box bright autumn colors, Tigard's JV football team fought their way through two wins and six losses. Not an impressive record, but the talents developed will benefit 69's squad. A skillful defense and outstand- ing individuals marked the '68 W 's However, th e ir inconsistent de- fense, trouble, being able to con- tain wise plays and receiving pen- alties in key moments hampered their overall success. A rib injury to crucial player Bill Olson in the third game also hurt the team. CROSS COUNTRY Fantastic Four Takes District Second Racing their Way through the artistry of autumn, Tigard's cross country squad didn't stop to catch their collective breath until second place in district was achieved. They started the year with an impressive victory at the Tillamook early-season invi- tational run. The fleet-footed tro upe then thundered on to Win all league meets. Not the least of their accomplishments was a second place at district. This qualified Tigard's Cross Country department for their second year at state. Called the Fantastic Four by their team- mates, the company of Juniors Karl Lamon and Dean Clark, Seniors jim I-Ierbst and Tim McVicker often placed four out of the top five runners. The remaining varsity members placed significantly high to keep Tigard on top all year. junior varsity standouts Keith Moore and Robin Lee careened the JV squad to a third place in district. Coach john Ulwelling summed up the sea- son: This was the most successful year yet. We expect to go to state again next year! VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY TEAM fl. to r.
