BM! Spirit Promoters Work for Unity. We Were striving for unity in the school, stated '68 Varsity Rally Queen, Nita Flores. We tried to decrease class competition so the kids would yell for their school and not for their class. Tigard's '68 rally did much more for the school than support the teams. They encouraged spirit and unity in all phases of school life. To achieve these goals, the girls conducted a survey on school spirit early in the year. ' Rated One of the sharpest squads around! by a state rally clinic, the girls Worked hard for their competence. Seniors Nita Flores, Kathy Benz, and Ian Chavez, jun- iors jenny West and jan Carey, practiced every two weeks during the summer. Nita, Kathy and jenny also attended a Week-long rally camp in Eugene during July. After school started, each girl had a free seventh period in Which to practice their numerous yells and skits. Jv RALLY Practicingnew yells and routines all summer, JV rally started the fall ready to help their varsity counterparts. As first runner-up to the '68-69 varsity rally, Margo I-Iavery automatically became squad captain. Jerri Par- rish, as second in line, took over this job during spring. Remaining members are: Denise Chavez, Sharonjohn- son, Marilyn Johnston and Ann jordan. VIGOROUS I. V. RALLY members Denise Chavez and Sharon johnson take a breather during a pep assembly skit. SADIE HAWKINS Students Honor the Land of AI Capp Hillbillies at heart, Sadie Hawkins gave Tigard stu- dents a chance to express their grubby inner personalities . The pickle sale, jelly beanguess and ring sale launch- ed the week's activities on Monday. Wednesday was Crazy Hat and Shoe Day. Log sawing, arm wrestling and tug-of-war contests provided opportunity for friendly rivalry during Thurs- day's lunch periods. Gwen Miller and Benny McQuaid won the log sawing contest. Dave Taylor was the strong man, winning four arm wrestling contests. Workmen's overalls, cut-offs, straw hats and bare feet were typical on Grubby Friday. A slave sale was held during the lunch hours. The most expensive slave was Ralphina fRalphJ Basile at 51.40. Friday night's girl-ask-boy dance was a well attended success. Rebeca Maldonado and Carlos Rivers, Tigard's foreign exchange students, were crowned Queen Sadie and King Hawkins. , DOUBLE IMAGE is mirrored by faces of Mr. Irresistablen Tim McVicker and younger brother Mike, a sophomore. 16 JELLY BEAN CONTEST WINNERS were Linda Harper and Daphne Bolden. Their prize: 503 jelly beans!
