4 HI-SPOTS Twentieth Senior Edition News and Views G.A.A. members celebrated the second anniversary of the organization of this club January 28, at a banquet. New officers were installed. Leo Wright was elected athletics manager. Rally girls will be chosen, henceforth, from each class. Three Tigard students attended Northwest Music instructors conference at Seattle, March 19-22nd. Two representatives of Tigard F.H.A. Club attended the Oregon Association of Future Homemakers of America Conference at Corvallis, March 21 and 22. Ronnie Swope was chosen Tigard’s candidate for the $1000 Aaron Frank scholarship. The Sadie Hawkins dance was held November 9. Whenever anyone on Hi-Spots wants the editor they yell “Where’s Lester . . Dimmitt!!! A scries of National Assembly programs were presented and the student body including comedian “Happy” Holly, presented by the Hi-Spots staff, A1 Connors, juggler, and Nadine and her dags, sponsored by the sophomore class. Freshman girls and boys were initiated in style by upper classmen. Roger Temple was named the state’s highest salesman for last year’s magazine sales. The sum of $49.66 was contributed to the community chest by the student body at a talent show held October 10. A Newspaper Dance was held November 16, by the student body to raise funds for the Hi-Spots. A cot and stretcher were bought for the boys’ locker room by the Mom’s and Dad’s Club. Elma Whistler and Lloyd Koch walked off with top honors at State Fair. Others winning county and state awards were Wayne Sagcrt, Shirley Koch, Homer Zuver, Greta Lohrcnz. More money was appropriated this year for the publication of the Hi-Spots by the Student Body. Bubble gum chewing doesn’t stop at high school for recently Mrs. Thompson was seen buying a package of bubble gum at the Freezer. Alan West left for the Army Sept. 6. Mrs. Wiggins and eleven girls attended the F.H.A. Conference at Hillsboro High School, Nov. 16. The G.A.A. held a party Nov. 20 for all Tigard girls interested in joining the club. Class representatives to the student council meetings were elected due to a new addition in Constitution passed November 15. G.A.A. members hiked to Beaverton the night of the Tigard-Beaver-ton game . . . brrr. “Patrick the Great” starring Donald O’Conner was presented by the newly formed stage club The Freezer, alias Ye Olde Tigers Den” reopened under new management this year and presents new-, brightly painted interior. The senior class visited the state legislature and state penitentiary Friday, March 20. The F.H.A. sponsored a series of food sales to raise funds for their page in the annual. Adele Wilkinson and Joyce Ochs received ratings at Washington Valley majorette contest in Salem, February 24. The junior public speaking class presented the one-act comedy “Elmer” February 27. Godfrey Places Third In West Point Contest John Godfrey received the third highest rating in Oregon for the 1946 West Point entrance examination in competition with 15 other boys between the ages of 17 and 22 but due to the resignation of the two highest John became the principal from Oregon. Twiriers Organize Pat O’Mara, Adele Wilkinson and Joyce Ochs organized a twirl-ers- club. The membership includes L. Fitzpatrick, B. Byron, P. Fowler, G. Hawley, D. Donncr, D. Lillison, D. Hanneline, C. Sims and Romo Adams, mascot. Long Felt Need Fulfilled The need was felt this year for a stage hands organization, whose membership thus far includes R. Diehl, W. Peters, and R. Shoen-auer. Girls' League Did Good Deeds For the Year The Girls’ League has had a full year of activities, the following arc only a few'. The Girls’ League adopted the French family of Gumerez and sent them packages of food and clothing. They also collected many gifts at the white Christmas program to be distributed by the Salvation Army. Freshmen and seniors had lunch together before the introduction of little sisters took place. October 18, the Girls’ League took oath of office by candelight ceremony. The Girls’ League Conference at Ncwberg, December 9, was attended by cabinet members and girls of the league. The league presented an Easter Program, April 3, to the student body the aid of the girls’ chorus and a number of boys. Three representatives were sent to the Ti-Tcens Club Congerenc sponsored by the Y.M.C.A. A Melody Mixer was held after the Tigard-Tillamook game, February 21. The Dads’ dinner was held April 19 and the Mothers’ Tea, May 1. Senior Girls Win Scholastic Merits Oleman, D.A.R. Girl The senior class selected Carolyn Oleman as its D.A.R. representative. Other competitors were Joy Grim-stad and Donna Helms. These girls were nominated by the faculty for their outstanding qualities of good citizenship, patriotism, leadership and personality. Schaefer State Champ Betty Schaefer won the all-state radio shorthand contest sponsored by Oregon State College during her senior year. Donna Helms took the coveted award in her junior year. A gold medal is presented to the winner. Lenz H.S.P.A. Secretary Maxine Lenz, Hi-Spots feature editor, was elected secretary of the Oregon High School Press association during the press conference at University of Oregon, December 6 and 7, 1946.
