1 -v' MISS SPURLIN Since the fall of 1945 Miss Spurlm has been stick mg by the Talisman staff in the supervision of the classes The alphabetizmg correction m spelling, the Pedigrees and quotations for the seniors requi much time However, Miss Spurlin smiles and goes after the job with vigor She is fast with her assign ments and comes up with her work always on time We are indeed thankful for her work each year Not only the Talisman receives benefits from Miss Spurlin but the band and the glee club, for which she is official Chaperon No one will ever know the thousands of miles she has gone through the rain and cold, night and day If she didn't love children or whatever place comes to hand she looks after the ailing, comforts those in distress and rejoices with the victorious Miss Spurlm has always been a popular teacher of English and foreign languages The following are some statements from some of her students e has a wonderful personality ' 'She teaches in such a way that the pupil is sure to learn something if lt,S no more than learning how to get along with people I think Miss Spurlin understands the prob lems of her students, their peculiarities, likes and dislikes In the classroom, she is reasonable in her requirements and in turn expects each student to cooperate ' She is generous with her time, mter ested in her students and willing to go beyond the halfway mark to help them I like Miss Spurlm because she gives you a chance to give your reasons why you think you are right, and an opportunity to express your opinion I respect her for holding to her rights and demanding obedience ' I enjoy her classes because she gives many quotations that ould ake us better if we remembered them Miss Spurlin, I would say, is an ideal high school teacher. If she is explaining something and you do not understand it, she will stop at anytime and dis- cuss and illustrate different points until you have caught on She wants you to understand it ' e is a teacher who makes you help yourself If you are in doubt, she doesn't agree or disagree with you, but she makes you give good reasons that prove to your self whether you are right or wrong In some instances it is better for students to work together Miss Spurlm knows when these situations come up and she doesnt hesitate to let her pupils quietly confer with each other She does not tolerate late work without a good reason for the lateness This makes you get your Work and keep up with the rest of the class so that you will understand the work better Sometimes, however, something arises that keeps you from getting your homework In a case like this if you have a good reason Miss Spurlin will always listen and 'let you by 'I would say that Miss Spurlin is the kind of a teacher that will prepare you for college, the business world, or what ever field that you later enter She has a keen nse of humor which makes her classes enjoyable M ss Spurli h o all senio DEGREES Honor Graduate in High School, AB Degree, Attended Summer School at Valdosta State School and University of Georgia CLUBS Eta Tau Epsilon 2, 3, 4, Secretary 2, Le Cercle Francais 3, 4, Vice President 3, Co ed Sextette 4 Co ed Monitor 4, La Socciedad Castellana 4 ACTIVITIES Secretary of Tift County Education Association two years, Band Chaperon for six years, Glee Club Chaperon for six years, Senior Class Advisor five years, Methodist Church Choir at Tifton, Vidalia Nashville, Uvalda, and Byromville, Assistant Song Leader 8: Pianist of Methodist Church School Secre tary 85 Treasurer of Uvalda P T A , udge of Dis trict Essay Contest in Sylvester one year, Coached Plays in Uvalda, Alapaha, and Nashville unior Senior Sponsor five years PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS Tift County Education Association, Georgia Edu cation Association, National Education Association TRAVEL Florida, North Carolina, Boat Trip from Savan nah to Beaufort, S C HOBBIES Reading, Crocheting, Football Singing t 1 ' 9 ush W-.. . . f 1 ' 1, Q! , . . .
