TH E DEDI ATI In appreciation for the excellent service rendered our school, we, the 1951 Talisman staff of Txfton High School, dedicate our year book to Coach Woodrow Alvin Davls Green Forest Arkansas November 26 1950 Alvin Davis who was born and reared in Green Forest Arkansas played hls flrst game of football in September 1932 This was the first year for the local high school to sponsor a football team ln fact there were not very many hugh schools playing football in this North West sectlon of our State at that time So Alvin a Junior ln High School played fullback ln the flrst game that he ever saw 'Hue team won the ma jority of games played the first year with Alvln being rec ognlzed as the outstandsng player The next year he was elected Captain of the team Two of the schools on our sche- dule both larger than our school were defeated by scores of 65 to 0 and 45 to 0 Alvin made more than 114 to 1f3 of all tackles and scored more than half of the total score for the season He was definitely the beat back ln lhorth Arkansas. playing hlgh school ball ln 1933 Alvin later proved his ability against much greater opposition and made All State College fullback at Arkansas Tech in Russellville Ark After graduating from Ark Tech he played with the Crimson Tnde at Alabama Not only was Alvln the most outstanding football player who has ever attended the local high school he was a good student cooperative a pleasing personality and a Gentleman ln every respect Sincerely J L Conley 4FormerQ Bupt and Coach of Green Forest. Arkansas High School From the Green Forest Tribune When Alvin Davls graduated from Green Forest High School lt was known that his ambltlon was to some day be a member of a team playing in the Rose Bowl Wlth this ln mind h entered Arkansas Tech at Russellville and was selected as Al State Fullback for the two years 1935 and 1936 Then he entered the Lnlverslty of Alabama and played for the Cnmson Tide where he reallzd his ambition of going to the Rose Bowl From first donning his uniform Ill high school to the Rose Bowl in hve years ls some jump From the Birmingham News Sunday Oct 2 1938 The Alabama Tide Dynamltes Howard College 34 to 0 Pig Davls Touches Off Heaviest Blast Pig Davls was the bright star of the Ala offensive The chucky Ark lad made two of Alabamas flve touchdowns and gained 153 yds in 15 runs an average of more than 10 per attempt On the second scrimmage Davls tore off left tackle and down the slde hne through a swarm of Bulldogs to score from his own 46 yd line-a 56 yd scoring sprint that Red Grange would have been proud f Davls pranced like a twinkle toeing half back as he clicked off the white stripes.
