THE CARILLON 1969 Ticonderoga High School Ticonderoga, New York YEARBOOK ADVISOR Mr. John McCarthy CO-EDITORS Ann Smith Jim Wells Published By: The Senior Class DEDICA TION Ralph Corbo Mr. George F. Burroughs Mr. Thomas Thompson TABLE OF CONTENTS Foreword 4 Administration 5 Faculty 9 Middle School 19 Clubs 23 Activities 27 Junior Plays 35 Junior Miss 39 Senior Tea 41 Junior Prom 45 Sports 33 Underclassmen 69 Seniors 3 FOREWORD Within the covers of our Carillion lies the history of ninety-two people who fought the Battle of Knowledge. The pages of this book contain fond memories to a group of people who have spent four years improving themselves to go out and conquer the world. It has been hard work, but high school has brought much more to our lives. Many of us have attended our first social, gone to our first prom, had our first date, and simply grown up. These precious years have conveyed more meaning to us than we shall inherit in a lifetime. The experiences we have undergone will provide the basis for our future. Many of us will go on to higher means of learning while some will now require the knowledge of their high school years to continue with their goal in life. The Table of Contents gives a first impression to what is in store for the reader, but through pictures and words we hope to portray a most important moment in the life of those who make up this yearbook. Each page unfolds a cherished moment never to come again, but to be remembered in the years to come. 4 BOARD OF EDUCATION Row 1 — Mr. Coon. Dr. Brennan. Mr. Campbell. Mr. Russell. Mr. Johnson. It marks the day that he and his classmates achieve recognition as upperclassmen. Our Junior rings were of special importance to us this year because we designed them ourselves. This Josten design was so unique and appealing that the class of nineteen seventy has decided to use it, also. Ticonderoga Senior High School Chorus The band and the chorus, under the direction of Mr. Lance Twyman, present two concerts each year. The Christmas Concert is pictured here. This year, for the first time, a small mixed chorus was formed. Under the name of BEL CANTO CHOIR, it consists of twenty people from our one hundred and ten voice choir. The band can indeed be proud of itself, because, as accomplished musicians, the group not only performs in parades and at football games, but is able to perfect and perform classical pieces at the annual concerts. For the girls who attended, it marked their introduction to the ladies of the college club. For the first time, Hague was represented at this affair. Their delegation consisted of Rose Belden and April Hayes, both seniors at the Hague High School. All in all, it was an enjoyable afternoon for our young ladies. 42 qPj WfTL MSt £ ov . QxjlA. c yiom. In our opinion, it had to be the best prom ever held. We introduced the idea of a king and his court at our prom. The king was Jim Wells, and his court consisted of Paul Davidson, Rick Bolton, Jim Guion, Bob Dickinson, Bob Carney, and Gary LaTour. Our Queen was Barbara Gandron, and her court consisted of Durna Swinton, Pamela Carney, Victoria Nadeau, Claire DeLano, Robin Hill, and Karen Strebe. Our coaches just have to be the best basketball coaches around. Another important factor is school spirit, and we are able to claim much of it. After all, it’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game that counts. 65 VARSITY CHEERLEADERS Robin Hill, Darlene Dedrick, Carolyn Malaney. Startup CLASS HISTORY In 1965, we entered the ranks of high school, the time when we would be graduating seemed to be decades away. How quickly we learned that the next four years were to be our busiest and best! As our class officers that first year, we chose John Oetken as president, Paul Davidson as vice-president, Barbara Gandron as treasurer, and Niles Gilleo as secretary. Our class activities that year included our first dance and receiving our class pins. We also had a class supper and served spaghetti. Our fund-raising activities included selling candy. Our second year began with us a little wiser in the intricacies of being a class. New comers that year were Pam Carney, Kip Carr, and Gayle Redmond, all welcome additions. People who left us were Donna Levins and Barbara Hyde. In our class elections, we unanimously re-elected John, Paul, Barb, and Niles. For fund raising, we sold candy, wrapping paper, and Christmas cards. We held another class supper, with pizza as the main course. Our Sophomore year flew by, and after sweating out finals, we found we were upperclassmen! It was fall, 1967, as we began our Junior year. The school itself was undergoing much construction and we all soon became experts in avoiding ladders and jumping over cables. Our Junior year was amazingly busy. As a class we again elected officers, they were Paul Davidson as pres., Niles Gilleo as v.p., Barbara Gandron as tres., and Durna Swinton as sec. We also elected Bob Carney as the sec.-tres. of Student Council. This year also saw John Oetken and Brian Schroeder move away, and Amy Felton and Iris Wehrman join us. It was also the year we put on our class plays, got our class rings, and presented our prom Somewhere My Love”. Who can ever forget Anne Carpenter as Luka, and the stars in everyones eyes at the prom! There were some sad moments too. Mr. Gordon Harris's sudden death in January was a great shock to us all. Suddenly it was June and everyone was caught up in a flurry of final exams and regents. There were some more sad moments here, when we received our grades! The summer flew by, with most of us working or taking it easy. Ruth Ann Pulling was the luckiest of us; she spent the summer in Germany. September rolled around and we all came back anxious to be Seniors. Anne Carpenter, Karen Strebe, and Kathy Newton left us this fall. Sue Abare, Kim Fitch, Becky Bullock, and Steve Vilardo joined us. Sherry Anderson entered our 78 class in January. Our class officers were Jim Guion, pres., Paul Davidson, vice-pres., Barb Gandron, treasurer, and Ann Smith as secretary. Organization officers included Jim Wells and 8ob Carney, President and vice-president of Student Council; Bob Dickinson, president of National Honor Society; and Nancy Peria as president of Chorus. Amy Felton was crowned Junior Miss in the annual pageant held in November, with Barbara Gandron as first runner-up. The Middle School opened its doors this fall. Grades 5-8 moved there and we truly became a high school. A great turnover of teachers, took place this fall. The familiar faces we had known since entering high school were replaced by new ones. Mr. Corbo, our Class Advisor for 3 years, left us to become Vice Principal of the new Middle School, and Mr. Thompson replaced him as class advisor. We also welcomed a new superintendant, Mr. Walter Campbell. Besides the administrative changes, there were also many structural changes. The first few days of school were really hectic. What had been a space suddenly became a planetarium. Rooms kept appearing and disappearing!!! As the year continues on, we are all looking foreward to graduation in June. It will mark the end of our childhood. For some of us it will mean marriage, for others, on to college or the service. As our four years at THS draw to a close, we all know that they have been the happiest four years of our lives. As years go by and we look back on our high school years, I’m sure we'll all fondly recall the words of our Alma Mater: Oh, Alma Mater, Ti High School, For thee our voices ring. For thee we strive to do our best, To thee all praise we bring. Let’s give a cheer for dear Ti High, And never let it end. And when our thoughts begin to roam, To Ti High let them bend. 79 SUSAN ABARE Transferred 4 Intramurals 4 DOUGLAS ABBOTT Cross Country 3, 4 Wrestling 3.
