RADM RICHARD C. BERRY, USN COMMANDER, CRUISER-DEsTRoYER GRoUP EIGHT Rear Admiral Richard C. Berry received his commission in June 1954 following attendance at Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I. He is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and George Washington University where he received a Master of Science Degree. Rear Admiral Berry's sea tours included command of USS ACOKEEK CATA-1811, USS HARTLEY CDE 10295, USS CONYNGHAM CDDG-175 and USS WAINWRIGHT CCG- ZSJ. While in command of USS WAINWRIGHT, the ship was awarded the cruiser Battle Efficiency NEW, five Departmental Awards, and was the recipient of the Marjorie Sterrett Battleship Fund Award as the most operationally ready ship in the Atlantic Fleet. His tours ashore have included duty with the Bureau of Naval Personnel as a detailer, the Joint Staff, Headquarters, European Command, and as the Executive Secretary to the Chief of Naval Operations for Joint Chiefs of Staff matters. When selected for promotion to flag rank, then Captain Berry was serving on the Staff of Commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Readiness and Training. Prior to his return to the Naval Surface Force, Atlantic, staff as Deputy Commander, Rear Admiral Berry served as Inspector General for the Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet and Atlantic Command. He as- sumed command of Cruiser Destroyer Group EIGHT on 10 August 1982. Rear Admiral Berry's decorations include the Legion of Merit with Gold Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He is married to the former Patricia A. Kendrigan of Chicago, IL. They have two children, Thomas and Denise.
