However. as ex- perience came. also came vic- tories. The Eagles took the long lius ride home from Mon- roe after ahsorlning a 39-2l de- feat. the only lvright spot of which was the showing of a good passing attack. Wlteti the Eagles took the field against Detroit Catholic Central. they were overwhelming underdogs. Wltile taking a 26-0 heating. they showed a spirit very sel- dom shown hy Thurston teams. They hattled all the way and played a much hetter game than the score indicated. Next. the Eagles came hack for the first home game of the year hut were unsuccessful as they lost to Melvindale hy the score of I8-6. The running attack lvegan to come into its own and the team seemed destined to begin winning. Destiny hecame victory the next week as the Eagles spoiled Oak Parks, homecoming by beating them 25-6. A fine team performance and a stout defense sparkled that first win. We tasted vic-

tory now letis eat Riverview was the slogan as the Eagles came home to tackle a tough Riverview eleven in the second homecoming game of Thur- stonis short history. Before a crowd composed mostly of stu- dents and alumni. the Eagles' determination helped them push Riverview all over the field in capturing a 26-13 victory. The most improved team in the areaf' was what the local pa- pers tabbed the Eagles. The next game was one everyone wanted to forget. The Eagles suffered a 36-7 loss to the powerful Rocks of Plymouth. The Eagles were down 30-0 at halftime but battled Plymouth on even terms in the second half. The final game of the year made the season a success. It was the grudge game with arch rivals R.U. In a crushing game the Eagles dumped R.U. 6-0. The season was over but it was one to be remembered for the Eagles had won the first night game for the school, they were the first Thurston team to beat R.U.'s varsity football team and the first team to win a homecoming game. Halfback Steve Schyck is brought down after a gain in the Detroit Catholic Central game. Jerry Provincal rolls out for a long gain against Riverview in the Homecoming game. Halfback Ron DeVore is finally taken down after a gain in the Redford Union game.
