Our future rests to an ever-increasing degree upon the engineer. the physicist. the chemist. But it is not only scientists and technicians who are required to as- sure our freedom and strength. Our schools must give us the minds that will create our books and plays and music. They must give us the citizens who under- stand the responsibilities as well as the privileges of democracy: They' must, above all. give us men and women who have learned to think. lt is our hope that your school means to you a place where you can strive to- ward such goals.
