1 HISTQRY CF THE 459 ers Here we are at last r1ght ln the front of the Re flector under the captron Senlors Each year s1nce we have come mto hlgh school we ve watched ourselves move a httle farther toward the front of the annual and wlth each change have been added all the wonder ful memorles of hlgh school When we flrst arrlved the tltle Rhlme sounded so Important Of course vue soon found out how wrong we were but wmmng the stamp contest after such terrlflc competltlon w1th the semors took some of the humllxatlon out of always seemmg to be ln the rlght place at the wrong tlme We were so proud of Leo and Pan as our stamp Kxng and Queen That was the only tlme m hlstory the rhxmes walked out of assembly flrst' Mrs Halverson was a lot of help to us that flrst year-espec1ally wlth our all school party when we at least profited by experlence Our freshman year wasn't so spectacular because we were awfully busy Just gettlng down to work We wele mcreased ln number by our 'country couslns who came to town to school Now we began to enter mto thxngs and really enJoy hxgh school tlme we really knew our way around and began to achxeve a llttle recogmtlon A few of our fellows ac tually made the varslty teams and several of the gxrls Jomed DS We decxded on a Valentme Hop for the theme of our post game dance and really dld thmgs up rlght w1th an orchestra and decoratlons That was also the eventful year we were mtroduced to geometry and those gruesome asslgnments that were only sup posed to take an hour to flnxsh Oh well, thmk of all we learned' Our only consolatlon was that lf we passed those flnal exams we d be Jumors Somehow we made It and then began a whxrlwmd year chuck full of highlights As Jumors lt was our Job to keep everyone Informed about school affalrs so we trled our hand at puttmg out the Jumor Reflector and had a lot of fun dolng lt We also made our flrst attempt at presenting a play and dld a fme Job wlth the help of Mrs Grxfflths Who wlll never forget Wendell as uB1g Hearted Herbert? About thus txme we all began walkmg around wlth stooped shoulders and rather squxnty expresslons, so the school .ooard declded somethmg should be done about It The result was the new drlnklng fountaxns so that our growlng dxgmty wouldn t be stunted and the flourescent lxghts 2.6 that gave us that Wide awake ' look They also decided that they'd better put the unter-com system m Just to keep an eye on us Our ' Mardx Gras prom was the last word m color and galety At the semors gasps of apprecxatxon, we forgot how much work the decorations had taken and enjoyed xt ourselves All ln all, It was a pretty wonderful year, but the thrill of gettlng our class nngs remmded us that we stxll had farther to go So here we are I thmk we all agree that thus has been the best year of all After our spectacular prom last year, our class funds were sllghtly depleted, so we dxhgently sold cokes and hot dogs at a couple football games and then gave a post game dance for good measure At the same tlme we began practlcmg for our play, whxch was called June 'Mad The cast dld a super job, thanks to the assistance of Miss Comar We still chuckle when we thmk of Judy Foster lh that red dress and the appearance of Harold after hls ghder had crashed Right after the play, several heated arguments began to take place among us over a very controversml xssue, and a class who had always pnded themselves on stlckmg together suddenly spht xnto two dxstmct sldes We decided we needed leaders to carry us through thls battle and so we chose Jerry for one side and Harold for the other At thus the flght began ln earnest and rose to the breath takmg chmax on the mght of open house National polxtlcs had nothmg on us After November 2 thmgs began to qulet down and now Tom and Harry are the best of frlends Only once m a whlle does the lssue reappear when we hear Wendell mutter, I stxll thmk Dewey should have got 1t ' Then it was tlme to begln thmkmg about the Reflector After a lot of planmng we began the Job of settmg down a record of this hlgh school year that would really mean somethmg Durmg thls tlme we were also occupled by having our plctures taken, ordering our announcements and cards, plannmg our skxp day trip, and performmg all of the other tasks whxch had to be done before graduatxon We are grate ful to the Jumors for the wonderful Arab1an Nxghts prom they gave us These are but a few of the many events whrch made up our hlgh school career Our teamwork as a class has made It a tremendous success and we look upon our graduatxon, not as an end but as a begmnmg to a brxght future O 1 7 , .
