America s phenomenal growth and greatness had at 1t's inception the individualism of its people History records and testifies that new ideas and progress has invariably been initiated by small groups or indi viduals who had the fortitude to withstand the biased and destructively critical attacks from those who wished to retain the status quo, or who worshipped tradition beyond reasonable and practical limits These individuals were not held in fear by their convictions, but, rather, their convictions freed them from the commonly accepted bonds and shackles and permitted them to develop their creatlveness in the varied fields of human endeavor Be one among many and not afraid of social pressures and crltl cism, while you search for the truth and the improvement of civilization Do not seek comfort and security as the ultimate goal of living, but seek and discover or rediscover the satl faction of finding new fron tiers and exploring them to your limit Mere security has its limits and liabilities, for where else can more complete security be found than in our penal institutions?
