BOYS' AND GIRLS' BASKETBALL AND UTHER SPORTS ' During the 1946 and 1947 Basketball season, Coaches Modesett and Birkelbach trained their girls and boys patiently and effect- ively in the rules of the game and the good sportsmanship in- volved. Both feel that their efforts were amply repaid by the showings their teams gave on the courts wherever they played. Mrs. Modesett's girls played a total of twenty-five games, losing only six of these. They placed second in an invitation tournament, and came out second in the entire district. Mr. Birkelbach's team played a total of twenty-seven games and lost twelve. This team participated in three invitation tournaments, winning a consolation, a third and a second. The boys placed second in their district. In County Meet Baseball, Thrall entered five events and placed first in four of them. -These first places were: ill Grammar School Boys, coached by Mr. Bachmeyerg C27 High School Junior Girls, coached by Mr. Pyle: C37 High School Junior Boys, coached by Mr. Smith and C47 High School Senior Girls, coached by Mrs. Modesett. This meet was held at Round Rock on March 21, 1947. On March 28, the boys track meet was held at Georgetown. The boys came out second in this meet. At the present time, Mrs. Modesett is working with her girl's Volleyball Team. So far, these girls have won five games and lost two. In literary events at the County Meet at Round Rock on March 29, Thrall placed first in Declamation, Shorthand and Spelling. Thrall placed third in typing. 1? ? ,L ' f -si -
