The entire year seemed to be one of rushing to finish a project, only to start another. Homework, club meetings, games, and dances have kept us going all year. Now we can pause to look back at a year that has gone too quickly and to reflect on the activities that made it so. Dedication The Lancer Legend is dedicated this year to a person who has greatly influenced Thousand Oaks High ' s first graduating class. He moved with the Class of 1964 from Adolf o Camarillo High, and has been its class advisor throughout the past four years. Probably his greatest achievement has been to help students think for themselves. He has accomplished this through his teaching and ad ising, both inside and outside the classroom. The Senior Class is indebted to you, Mr. Anderson, for your continual interest and guidance during the past four years. Principal Commencement time traditionally brings a wave of nostalgia, and the realization that life is a continual change. This year, the feeling will be unusually severe, as we bid goodbye to our first graduates. On behalf of the entire stafif, I wish each member of the Class of 1964 best wishes for the future and a sincere Thank You for your tre- mendous efforts at Thousand Oaks High School. Vice-President The Associated Student Body represents the students of Thousand Oaks High School as a whole. Through the sale of A.S.B. Cards, money is raised and a detailed bud- get is drawn up to cover all expenses from V.C.I.S.C. to supplies for posters and paints. Its officers are responsible for organizing and coordinating formals, rallies, hops, as- semblies and other projects of various natures. A.S.B. sponsored such social affairs as the Welcome Dance, the Football Formal, and the Spring Sports Formal. 1 A«. ' tV ' 20 DIANE TAYLOR A.S.B. Secretary PAT McLaughlin A.S.B. ANDERSON, Ad- The present graduating class began its first year of high school at Adolfo Cam- arillo High. The ninth graders that year sponsored the first Freshman Carnival, which is now a tradition there. In its Sophomore year the class won second place with its Homecoming Float and sponsored a Halloween dance and a suc- cessful Luau. In the fall of 1962 the Class of ' 64 moved to the newly finished Thousand Oaks High. Its officers, who were elected the previous spring were Jim Olsen, Pres- ident; Melli Runnion, Vice-President; Carol Trumbauer, Secretary; and Pat McLaughlin, Treasurer. Under their leader- ship the class had a Halloween Dance and a Jr. Girls vs. Jr. Boys basketball game. Funds from these activities plus Bermuda days, after-game dances, and concessions were augmented by the profit from the successful Junior Class Play, The Night of January I6th. This money enabled the Class of ' 64 to build a Senior Patio. Early this year the class cho e powder blue and white as its colors and Ely- sians for its name. The Elysians have been very active this year. They have had a Hush Day, Bermuda Day, an after-game dance, a Senior Patio Workday, and an interesting Senior Girls vs. Senior Boys basketball game. In November the class decided to donate page outfits and a throne to the school for use at dances. With the money remaining in the treasury the class will leave a gift for the school. At the time the Lancer Legend went to press, plans were busily being made for graduation. Talk of Senior Awards Night, a Senior Breakfast, and the All- Night Party was common. And now that the end is really in sight — the excitement of graduation near — the Seniors pause to think of their four years and of the events which make them memorable. Zachary, S. Crispin, T. Owens, S. Welling, J. Clippinger. The hopes for the Golf Team this year are high because it now has the ex- perience it lacked last sea- son. Practice began in mid- February at Las Posas. Mat- ches wete played there un- til the opening of Los Rob- les in April. The team con- sists of 16 boys. The top five scorers during the week play the match that week. tt An annual does not appear by magic at the end of the year. It takes work, a lot of work. The them6 of this edition of the Lancer Legend, Going Places, de- scribes my busy staff well. I really appreciate the hours they gave unselfishly. Special thanks go to Miss Hinkle, Advisor; Carol Shearer, Business Manager; Ed Harpe, Photographer; Micki Scott, Typist; and Mrs. Romans, A.S.B. Book- keeper, who were with me through all phases of production. In addition, I sin- cerely wish to thank the faculty and administration for their cooperation. The staff has put much thought into this annual. It has attempted to design a book which will have a lasting meaning for you and one of which you will be proud. We hope you enjoy it.
