On Friday June 8, staff and students met to enjoy a varied and interesting programme at the annual Phase Two Awards Assembly. Wayne Tompkins, our new director of education, as chairman of the event told the audience that courage should be a main element in their future success. This year ' s Achiever of the Year award was presented to Silvia Wiesler. After all the awards were given out, an interesting slide presentation was made by Mr. Darby and then everyone moved to Mrs. Goodell ' s shop for a delicious lunch. Mr. Carson awards Terry Chase and Robert White with Canox Welding Awards.

COMMENCEMENT TISS annual commencement was held on Wednesday evening June 27, 1979. Mr. Ken Robinson as master of ceremonies directed the evening ' s presentations. Secondary and honour secondary school graduation diplomas were presented in addition to numerous scholarships and bursaries which were presented to deserving graduates. The Honourable James A.C. Auld, Minister of natural resources and Minister of Energy for the province of On- tario was the guest speaker. Mr. Auld challenged the graduates to work at improving the problem areas created by previous generations. He pointed out that constructive criticism of present conditions must include the desire and the determination to change those conditions. This year ' s valedictory address was delivered by Dave Reynolds. He asked the audience to remember that the graduates held, i n their hearts, awards of thanks to the staff members at TISS who helped to bring them to this then- graduation evening. After the formal part of the evening graduates, their families and special guests gathered in the cafeteria for refreshments.
