BASKETBALL At the end of another football season, Coach Tetzner, again called together candidates for the 1955-1956 bas- ketball season. This year, we were fortunate to have five returning lettermen, who formed the nucleus of this year's cast. Bill Harycki, Don Soderberg, Dave Guell, Jim Schauer, and Rex Schmidt had quite a bit of ex- perience in Varsity ball last season. Paul Harycki, John Klonda, Harold Hallanger, and Jerry Boardman, also BASKETBALL Not. 22 -'AI.'l'0UNA AT TlloRl'. Starting the sea- son, as last year, by playing Altoona, the Cards began with a win. They downed the Railroaders 69-54 to re- verse last seasons start. lion Soderberg was high man of the game with lil points. Jim Schauer was next with 18. Nov. 29 -Tnonr AT XVISCONSIN RAPIDS. Return- ing the trip Wisconsin Rapids Assumption made to Thorp last season, the Cards again came through with a victory by defeating Assumption 40-36. Trailing at the end of the third period, Thorp outscored Assumption 12-5 to preserve their record with 2 wins and no losses. line. 2 - Nr:I1.i.svl1.l.i: AT Tnonr. The first confer- ence game of the season was played with the Neillsville Warriors at home. Leading all the way, the Cards soundly trouneed the hopeless Warriors T1-32. Don Soderberg led the Thorp team by sinking 24 points. line. of Coi.rAx AT Tnoiar. Again leading Thorp on to victory, lion Soderberg hit for 28 points, while Bill Harycki tried to catch him by sinking 25. Out- scoring them in every quarter, Thorp whipped Colfax 87 til ln-ze. 9 -- On'if:N-W1'riii:if: AT Tnoizr. Owen-Withee was Thorp's second conference victim, bowing to the Cards 65-54. Soderberg and Haryeki, again, shared the scoring laurels with 24, 23, points respectively. This brought the winning streak to 5 wins and no losses. had previous experience, so Coach Tetzner had superior reserves. When he needed depth, he also had Dan Winger and Keith Glasshof to call on. With two very capable managers, Louie Platt and Don Ryniec, Coach Tetzner had little trouble in finishing the season by breaking many former school records. Thorp also placed on the Little Sixteen every week, ending up fifteenth in the final rating. SCHEDULE DEC. 15 - Tlloicr AT STANLEY. Meeting our rivals on their tioor proved to be interesting and exciting. Leading by one point at the quarter and trailing by one at the half, the Cards, paced by Bill Harycki and Rex Schmidt, pulled the game through the fire and won 68-64. Disc. 20 - Tnoiar AT GREENwooo. Traveling to Greenwood for the last game of 1955, the Cards ex- perienced the greatest drama of the entire season, when they snuck by a fast moving Greenwood ball club, 61-60. Thorp led 53-35 at the beginning of the fourth quarter and Greenwood whittled the lead to 1 point. Schauer had 19 points for Thorp. JAN. 3-Tnoicr AT Co1.FAx. To start the 1956 half of the season, the boys traveled to Colfax to play the Vikings once again and once more, they came back with a victory. Leading all the way, the Cards won their eighth straight, 56-23. JAN. 6- ToNY AT Tnoizr. For the first time in a regular season that Thorp met Tony, the Cards went on a shooting spree, defeating Tony 85-53. Bill Harycki scored 22 points and Schauer was next with 17. JAN. 10-Ai-moTsI-'onli AT Tnoizr. Upsetting Ab- botsford 70-57, the Cards extended their winning streak to 10 for a record of 10 wins and no losses. Trailing only at the half by two points, the Cards, with the help of Bill Harycki's 21 points, came through on top again. l':ige l iI't y - Nix
