SENIOR CLASS HISTQRY Come w1th me wh1le I show you l1ve h1story made by the Sen1or Class of Thorntown Hlgh School from the fall of 1954 to the sprlng of 1958 We are the f1rst graduatmg class to have gone all four years 1n the new Thorntown Hlgh School Flfty four happy eager freshmen were among the f1rst to open the doors and pass the portals of the brlght new school The Sen1ors led us 1nto an excltlng h1gh school llfe by sponsormg thelr annual dance m our honor They 1nstructed us to wear an odd assortment of clothes and parade the length of the new gymnaslum wh1le Judges stood by to choose the greenest freshman Jlm Bowen took the honor and Greenles on Parade was a success Class electlon mer1ted Dolores Norkus Pres1dent Robert Worth V1ce Presldent Sue Pr1ce Secretary and JeanJackley Treasurer Our Sponsors were Mrs Cones and Mr Hart Durlng the year we held two class part1es a skatlng party on November 19 anda Chrlstmas party on December 15 We took our turn and spon sored a square dance on Apr1l 16 Durmg the year we galned Carolyn Beck Delor1s D111 and Judy Parke and lost M1ke Brock Delorls D111 Clarence Rance and Donald Dye In the fall of 1955 flfty one fam1l1ar faces aga1n entered the st1ll new h1gh school and became Sophomores We Sophomores chose offlcers wh1ch were Sue Pr1ce Pres1dent Carlton Lamar V1ce Presldent Dor1s Balley Secretary and Jean Jackley Treasurer Our class sponsors were Mr Bowen and Mr Joseph We had a busy year and h1story went down as we ordered class sweaters from Campbells Dry Goods Store We chose charcoal grey sweaters w1th our names on one s1de and red cardmals on the other Two class partles were planned and carrled through We also sponsored a sem1 formal dance on February 16 wh1ch we called the Sophomore Stampede We felt we were makmg h1story as we looked at r1ngs from Jostln s and Jones Jones succeeded 1n selllng us the Thunderb1rd Style wh1ch we ordered on Apr1l 3 The flfty one Sophomores were growlng wlser and older as the school year neared an end We had gamed Patty Baer V1rg1n1a Danlels Margaret Poole and Nancy Nlcholson but lost John Allen Carolyn Beck Carol Pr1ce Danney Thomerson Carol Pa1nter Margaret Poole Tommy McCall Dor1s Balley Betty Fa1rf1eld Robert Blrge Nancy Nlcholson and Judy Parke In September of 1956 forty two Jun1ors took the1r places as upperclassmen We year We chose Sue Pr1ce Presldent John Coffman V1ce Presldent Clara Evans Secretary and Jean Jackley Treasurer Our Sponsors were Mrs Long and Mr Nelhart We were kept very busy selllng concess1ons at all the home basketball games We had one class party and sponsored a formal Chrlstmas Dance wh1ch we named the Snow flake Ball Our local dance band provlded mus1c On November 2 the Jun1or class pre sented Deadly Earnest a three act comedy w1th Mrs Long as head dlrector In February we held a bake sale to replemsh our class funds and help steer our plans for the Jun1or Sen1or Recept1on We dec1ded to have a banquet and a dance at Marshall's 1n Mar Jean Vlllage 1n Lafayette The R1OtS from Crawfordsvllle furnlshed our dance mus1c In May we elected the Exode Staff ' for our Sen1or year At the end of our Jun1or year we lost Falth Venls Peggy Peace and Ronme Gant and gamed James Gr1sson'1 H1story llves and grows as forty one superlor Sen1ors enter the four year old h1gh school We gamed at once Janet Deck from Colfax and an old fr1end Clarence Rance Our last nlne months of h1gh school were the buslest we have ever seen We carefully elected offlcers for our b1ggest year John Coffman Pres1dent Carlton Lamar V1ce Presldent Jean Jackley Secretary and Larry Campbell Treasurer Now lt was our turn and we successfully wrought 1n1t1at1on upon the several freshmen The School Paper was aga1n put to press and the f1rst 1ssue ga1ned approval from all On October 10 we journeyed to Porter s Studlo m Indlanapolls to have Sen1or plctures taken H1story st1ll travels on as we v1sual1ze events yet to come We are plann1nga M1nstrel 1n Apr1l and a tr1p to Chlcago 1n May The Jun1ors of course w1ll have our Jun1or Sen1or Recept1on Class n1ght w1ll come and we w1ll take our place as the awards and scholarshlps are announced Baccalaureate w1ll be next and we w1ll s1t through moments of remembrance and thankfulness as alocal m1n1ster brmgs us an 1nsp1rat1onal message The the day w1ll come when forty one Sen1ors w1llrece1ve the long awa1ted dlploma We w1ll look back 1n our h1story and see the many thmgs wh1ch took place 1n the f1rst four years of Thorntown s new Hlgh School and we the Sen1or Class of 1958 w1ll offer gratltude and appreclatlon for the f1ne H1gh School Educat1on glven to us 1n a most modern school 1 ll ' sv ' .
