is the newest advancement in the Science Department curriculum. lt is not a course nor a class but a process by which talented students may do creative scientific work outside of regular classrooms. Goal of the seminar is such thorough discussion of current scientific developments that members will keep up to date on their own. Thus, principal emphasis is on individual projects. Mr. James Kane, director, meets the group daily, periods five and seven. He helps members plan their research and supervises them in proper techniques. He encourages speculation on possible approaches and solutions to current problems. Members take field trips to research laboratories in the Chicago area and hear scientists discuss the many types of activities students can look forward to in a career in science. Each student must be actively involved in a research problem of his own choice and, on the basis of that problem, take part in the Westinghouse Science Talent Search conducted each spring over the country. Using a model to determine ATOMIC structure- Mr. Harms, Pat Norris., and Art Relmlitz. PHYSICS and focal lengths occupy Rosemary Philpot., Jim Dunne, Judy Bloomquist. 31? i iiii i v . I ,X .
