F is the first big party of the year. Girls Club plays hostess, freshman girls and all others new to Thornton are guests. Traditional opening ceremony is the hand-shake line, a get-acquainted device. 4 THE SQUAD comes up from the dressing room for after-school practice on the football field. I AFTER SCHOOL buses line up along the east side of the main building. sessions were musts for everyone connected with sports. While most students took the buses headed for home, Thornton teams and cheerleaders had strenuous work-outs on the football fields or in the gyms. Football squads, coming up the steps from the dressing rooms, jogged over to Buda field for practices so as not to dig up turf on the main gridiron. Cheerleaders practiced on the big field and so did the majorettes. Band maneuvers were perfected there, also, after being planned on the special little peg-board and translated into positions for people. Opening and half-time ceremonies at football games plus pep stunts in the gym called for practice.
