Back in 1898, when the school was organized, Thornton had only one building and 108 students. Now there are 3,734 teen-agers and 198 faculty crowded into the Thornton campus. The original three-story building in the center was extended north, south, east, and up. Then it jumped the street to the north and became the new gym and the Held house. A big new classroom wing is now being constructed on the west and a shop building across the street to the east.
