and Cliff!-3lf'El1l speakers spoke on different subjects KIP ASSEMBLY-Don Ring, Dave Olfe. Kitten Arveson. We found among us new leaders A: to replace the old and we elected them to a variety of -' offices, small and large. Rene Wernficlre became the senior ' class president as well as president of the National Honor Society. Dick Evans was elected to head the KIP, W ,rt Dave Ulfe to preside over the Purple X, and Leroy 1' ' Cooper was made honorary captain of the football team. Bob 3 Wentz and ,lim Reichert were co-captains of the basketball squad. Pat Podgorny, captain of the cheerleaders, boosted our morale when the situation looked dark for the teams . me im . and cheered us on to victory when we were the winners. C27 Ken Groeneveld and Carole McCarthy headed the Boys s t and Girls H Clubs. Somehow those leaders of a year ago were capably replaced and the need for new leaders fulfilled. Q 10 PD

UCC. and saw new faces among the faculty, like that of Miss Beynon-. who replaced Mrs. Bauman in the Art Department. Everyone was happy to start no M a new year with a clean slate. There fr W .- were precedents i if established, such as all-school assemblies in the new gym, and the new system of citizenship grading. We saw a number of changes at Thornton, and we took a new group of freshmen into our midst. Bryan Arveson ' mimi was one of these. Many of them were younger brothers and - sisters of former Thorntonites. There were some transfer students too, like Milda Trimakas, who came here from Lithuania to become a part of our Thornton family. And, of course, there were an awful lot of faces A missing. HALLGUARDS-Bob Mayeruk. Cyril Heselton, and Dun Baird guard the iron curtain. and there were the monkeys behind the iron curtain at the entrance of the tunnel to the new gym. 44957
