Page I2 Tlaoftntonitu make TTIJS Hum By the time the first issue ol the paper was published, many things had happened at Thornton. The Thorntonite had won high honors in the Quill and Scroll rating service. the Cast lor Young April, Boys and Girls Club play. had been chosen, senior photos lor the yearbook were being made, and the football team had overpowered Blue Island. There was a new superintendent in command of Thornton and seven new members had joined the laculty. Then came the 12-0 victory over Champaign. organization ol' the special girls cheering section, formation ol' a group ol cub reporters for the Thorntonite and the faculty picnic. In October came the Girls Club magazine drive. the first Purple X open house, moving day for the business department to new quarters. Loyalty Day and Scholarship Day lor Girls Club members, election ol' oflicers for classes and clubs, and the first league victory over Highland Park. Pierians SCIlt out a call for manuscripts, the new baby grand piano arrived in the music depart- ment. Home Llc girls invited the faculty to luncheons, and the television broad- cast ol' the XVorld Series attracted a huge crowd to the Buda gym. Climax ol' the month carrie with the celebration honoring I.ou Boudreau of the Cleveland Indians and native son ol' Harvey. The Freshman Stand-up and the Girls Club faculty tea were end-ol'-Ihe-month events. November brought the Boys Club Mother-Son banquet, the Kll' Homecoming dance, the Thornton edition ol' the presidential election, third place in the Suburban League for the football season, TB Skin Test day, announcement ol the winner ol the essay contest, and best ol' all-Thanksgiving! Boys wind motors in electric shop. jeans were popular at school danccs
