This is the goal of Thorn- ton's business department, and it is being reached every year. Now that the war is over, busi- ness standards are extremely high. Only those who have the best business training will get the available jobs. The depart- ment is not perfect, but it is cer- tainly at the top. Thornton has excellent busi- ness facilities. Every pupil is given the opportunity to do the best he can. It is quite impos- sible for all students to find a place in the business world, but additional classes are provided in summer school and night school for those who want to find positions and who want to be better business men and women.

I couldn't help running into you. You see, I was admiring the poster above the door. I wonder who made it?', Ah, yes! These are familiar phrases in the halls of Thornton. For Thorn- ton's Art Department has shown that it is composed of talented students. These Rembrandts of tomorrow have made most of the posters seen in Thornton's halls. All freshmen are required to take a course of art. This enables them to learn the practical aspects of art, and better appreciate it. Sophornores are able to apply the principles which they learned in their freshmen year to poster work and figure drawing. Juniors and seniors are offered com- mercial art, advanced art, and art and crafts. Advertising and letter design are taught in commercial art, while the ad- vanced art classes learn about portrait- ure, caricature, and mural designs.
