£ Wpe Shooting a Senior by John Holmes One of the first signs of becoming a senior is the experience of being photographed by a professional photographer. The Retrospect went on location with Pam Davis, from the Portrait Gallery, and Thornton High senior Leo Salazar for a behind the scenes look at the taking of one senior's class picture. About one-fourth of the seniors at Thornton High School get their pictures taken at the Portrait Gallery. Other popular area studios are Olan Mills and Evans Photography. No matter where a senior gets their pictures taken, there is always a large amount of cost involved. For an example, at the Portrait Gallery, the cost for one sitting and one photograph entry into the yearbook is $15, and a double sitting, indoor and outdoor, is $25. The cost of buying senior pictures can range from $60 to $250, but it depends on how much the senior wants to spend. Much planning and preparation goes into the photographing of a senior. The senior has to attend many appointments and has to make many decisions before the actual sitting. What Am I Going To Wear ? How Will I Comb My Hair? Should I Smile Or Be Serious ? The photographer plays the biggest part in making a senior look good by showing and telling the senior how to position their head, arms, and legs. The main goal for the photographer is to try to put the senior at ease so that their personality will shine through. Finally, after everything is said and done and the senior has had a chance to see their pictures, they have to pick one picture out of 20. The senior wants this photograph to be the best picture because this photo is how each senior wants to be remembered in the yearbook. yOu CL Cxjcr Cf lf Roll 'Em id) Portrait Gallery photographer Pam Davis blocks the sunlight.
