Text from Pages 1 - 272 of the 1979 volume:

My beginning lies before me Each step is the advancement of my future. I feel time has slipped by with the ticking of the clock. And each season passes with changing color in the leaves, Soon the spring air will surround me and my future ... Soon the reality of life becomes more than a dream. r Contents •w. The band that performed was Jonathon. Students attended the dance ready to boogie to the music. Homecoming Royalty Upper left: Karen Thompson and Marty Standish. When the girls showed their talent at playing football, they found it takes more than power to win. The boys who cheered made up for the fact that the game ended in a scoreless tie. The cheerleaders had the audience so wound up that no one even noticed the lack of scoring on the field. It was good, '•clean” fun. especially after the game, when the juniors thought they could smear the seniors not knowing the sen- iors had the same idea. The field and the girls looked like a snow storm had hit. courtesy of whipping cream. With Audience . . . Pep Assembly, 8 Only The Beginning.. . . Trojan pride sparked enthusiasm at the Homecoming Pep Assem- bly. The assembly began by hav- ing the band parade through the halls playing the school song and the fight song. Students gathered behind the band to follow them down to the fieldhouse. Preced- ing introduction of the football players, cheerleaders led the cheers to promote spirit. Class competition yells, in which the football players took charge, end- ed the assembly. Opposite page. Upper Left: The Band Plays On . Lower Left: Football team is out to get 'em! Although the Trojans were not victorious, out- standing efforts were achieved. Thorn- ton led 19-15 at the end of the third quarter, but the final score read 36-19 in favor of Mullen. 10 Game Trojans The 1978 Home- coming week was highlighted by the traditional parade. This year's floats showed many addi- tional hours of hard work as the floats were constructed at students' homes. The VICA float was honored with the first place trophy. HERO'S float took second, followed by DECA, third. 12 March On Upper Left: Kirk Marcy heads the Homecoming Parade. Upper Right: Senior class officers Toga for Class Float. Members of Student Congress volunteered to sell themselves. The auction was held on Sept. 25th. Slaves were put to the mercy of their masters on the following day. Slaves were expected to carry books, clean lockers, and do other tasks through- out the day. Hat and tie day was held on Sept. 26th. Many students wore crazy hats and color- ful ties. It was a dif- ferent type of a day and added a light touch to the Home- coming festivities. Upper Left: Slave. David Pizzuti. cleans lint of( of Pam Barrs pants. It blooms along the challenging mountain side. Soon its leaves will burnish with autumn winds and in time its branches will glitter with snow. So a life that dares must meet each challenge to the end, and when it comes say, “Welcome Friend.!” 16 Denise Abeyta Mark Alderete Marcy Addy Joleen Allis Rick Aldrich Val Anderson Terri Anderson Antoinette Casias Karmen Argust Matt Armer Danna Aschenbrenner Dan Askamit Julie Babcock Althea Bakke John Barclay 20 Frankie Batdorf Diane Bedrin Dotti Berglund Sharon Blythe Richard Boltz Guy Brauch Nancy Boudreaux Debbie Brady Glenn Boychuck Lisa Boring Gary Bradley Karen Breit Roberta Brito Cindy Brooks Becky Brown Kim Brown Jerry Brunetti Eugene Burns Frances Jeff Bruns Burt Cindy Bush Mike Campbell Donna Buster Dave Capron Bill Casey Ricky Caudill Greg Chambless Denise Cavanaugh 8ill Buzzclle Joe Charles Karen Chase Mary Collins Eddie Collins 24 Tore Dalton 25 Elise Danford Roxanne DeWitt Ted De Wecse Mike Dietrich Randy Dominquez Sandy Dinkel Sheila Douglas Kathy Dorchak Denise Dunnington Dale Edwards eff Erfman Eric Elder Mike Faccini Debbie Evans Sandra Fernandez Tamie Fleck Theresa Frank Teresa Gandara Mary Garcia Susan Gates Mike Gerber Lori Gibbons Doug Gerecht Greg Gilleland Linda Gidley Lindon Glover Dave Geldmeyer Jane Gonzales Fred Gottschalk Christy Graves Scott Greubcl John Greenwald 31 Kevin Guiles 32 Debbie Hake John Harris Nancy Hake Kristy Harrington Robin Hastings Tom Hatfield 34 Peter Herrera Steve Holyoak Jim Hines Roger Hilborn Diane Hescncr Carolyn Hoffman Richard Hess Tonnie Horden Jacqueline Hortensius Debbie Huffman Dan Howell Wayne Ibarra Sharon Hughes Barbara Hughes Troy Jackson Laura Ingalls Danny Ingram Mike Jarest Brenda Jesser Greg John Michael Johnston Gary Johnson 36 Jim Jones Sherry Jones Phil Kennedy Susan Kelley Michael Keefe Greg King 3 7 Rick Kilgore Oanny Kline Brain Kinman Mark Kinnear Michael Kirchner Christy Knight Mitch Knutson John Kochevar Tom Kolymago Dean Korb Linda Kraus Kieth Krieger Diana Krueger Eulene Lebsack Tim Kubik Brenda Lconhardt Eugene Long Tina Lower Cheryl Lundsford Robin Leung Theresa Lopez Louis Lucero Lauri Lull Joan Lundstom 40 Debbie MacMaster Scott Maltzie Lori Markley David Martini 41 Terry Madrid Shelley Mantey Ernie Marks Ronald Martin Linda Martinez Mike McKee Jerry McKinny Susan McMahon Charles McWhorter Veronica Medina Stan Merrill Robert Miers Mark Meeks 43 Carolin Mikes Cathy Neuman Dan Nichols II Randy Nickerson Val Noblitt Susie Nielsen Christy Neuman Melissa Nelson Ann Nadon Terri Nazarenus Connie Penallor Andy Perez Sandy Peterson Saul Pliuskonis 48 Daryll Pope • 'T' 49 Vicki Reynolds Diana Reary Joe Reed Joe Rhodes Frank Robbins David Robertson Mike Roland Eileen Roberts Linda Roberts Robert Rood Darla Rucobo Florence Russell Janet Russell Russ Trujillo Ernest Rupp Jennifer Sameshima Chuck Satchell 52 Jackie Schell David Schell Chris Schwartz Karen Sherry Barb Shults Sheri Schanwolf Cindy Schnoor Andrew Shaffstall Randy Slater Teresa Smith Michelle Speyrer Lori Staton 8ambi Stephenson 53 Clifford Sterling Rhonda Stigall Sandy Stoppcl Jeff Sullivan Anna Strashcim Gary Sugihara Ray Sullivan Sherryl Taylor Karen Taggart Berenice Tenorio Johnna Trottman Shirley Vandervoort Karen Thompson Roscanne Uebelhoer Laloni Underwood Sara Thomas Tom Trujillo 55 56 Pat Vining Wendy Vink Hai Vu Jamie Vowles Jerry Walter Jananne Von Feldt Stewart Wahl 57 Bruce Wamsley Brad Was$ Kathy Weiss Lynnette West Janet Whyatt Ed Weiss David Westfall Vern Wiessncr Patricia Wheeler Reynold Wilden Brenda Wilkinson Tammy Williams Bob Williamson Debbie Williams Tami Wood Chris Yoshida Ron Williams Stan Wilkison Carolyn Younger Stephanie Zimmerman Monica Heil Lisa Cummings Tammy Reed Kathy Zuniga Randy Shepperd Debbie Hale 60 Stacy Fretthold Seniors . . . Iris Dunaway Billie Taylor Elaine Moulton Home Economics Experiences The biggest challenge to the Home Economics department in the 70’s was going from a two-person department with four courses to a totally different curriculum containing thirteen courses taught by five teachers. The Home EC teachers met their challenge by spend- ing evenings and summer hours work- ing to revise the curriculum. This year and next year will be devoted to testing out the new curriculum. 86 Growing Pains Successfully Lorinda O'Hara Glenna Sherick Language Arts — Challenging Path Language Arts encompasses the broa- dest academic area in the curriculum; consequently this department is served by the greatest number of teachers. Wayne Bridge. Tom Pickles. Shari Bethel. Gail Williams; (bottom row) Reynold Wilden. Greg Ellison. Michelle Spreyer. Debbie Keller, and Cindy Kite. Thornton High School theatre’s production of the play “Rainmaker” was presented December 7 and 8. Many people helped make the “Rain- maker” an enjoyable play. The director, Marta Hedde, gave the cast an euthusiastic approach to their parts. The technical aspects of the pro- duction were outstanding. Laura Earnshaw created an authentic looking set with the help of Tom Pickles and Shari Bethel. Debbie Keller was in charge of costumes and Gail Williams captured the mood with lighting. The success of the play, however, belongs not just to one person but the cooperation of a well-trained group of students who made the whole evening pleasant with their dedication to Drama.
