THE TRIPOD - 1933 ll 1lUlIUUllB Officers WARREN FENDERSON Preszdenz WENDELL STACKPOLF Vzce Preszdent BURTON MITCHELL Secretary Treasurer The 'I hornton Academy Varsity T Club started 1ts second successful season this year with an eltglble membership of about forty boys Many new members were added durmg the year and 1n1t1at1on nights were very much in evidence The club sponsored many new projects the most successful being a glass enclosed bulletin board at the gym and the sale of refreshments at the home athletic events The l93l football trophy was also engraved through e efforts of the club Perhaps one of the most successful undertakings the club tried was e teams on arrival showed them their quarters and then conducted them to e scene of act1v1t1es Such things as these make one realize that the club stands for courtesy and friendship towards all competitors on and off the athletic field For those who do not understand the club and its functions perhaps a brief word of explanation would not be misplaced The club draws its mem bershxp from athletes who have won their letter nn an athletic function and who have shown themselves to be of a sportsmanllke character Lettermen who apply for admission in the club are accepted by a majority vote of the present club members They are then 1n1t1ated and pledged 1I1tO the soclety The club stands for higher deals in the sports world and has been and is very promi nent in school functions Since the club was started two years ago Mr R Edgar May Physical Education mstructor has been the faculty representative and it has been through his work the club has succeeded l50l L l ' . th . 4 r V reception of visiting athletic clubs, The members of the Varsity Club met the ' , ' , th
