Students study language in class, but learn the country in clubs. In TR's Language Department stu- dents learn more than just to speak a for- eign language. While the first two years are mostly grammar, vocabulary, drills, and home work, the third and fourth years are different. In these classes stu- dents put their knowledge to work by reading books or short stories in foreign languages. Another phase is the study of foreign culture through books, films, and field trips to ethnic neighborhoods and restaurants. For students who want to know even more about other lands, there are French and Spanish Clubs. One project of the Spanish Club was to sponsor an orphan in Mexico. The French Club subscribes to many Parisian magazines to enrich the members' reading in French.
