Although the varsity was victorious in their first four meets, their record for the season was 2-11. Only one of those first four wins stood up against the ll-'ISA rules committee, as diver Gary Mastey was admonished for receiving instruc- tions during the previous summer. Thornridge was forced to forfeit each meet in which Mastey had appeared, un- til the time the infraction was discovered. The varsity placed sixth in league com- petition. The sophomore team, having no such controversy interrupting their concentration, finished their season with a better 6-6 record and a fifth place finish in league. P A Gymnastic teams prove too strong for opponents Varsity gymnasts had an outstanding season with a 10-3 record. The team in- cluded All-American Kevin McGraw, and Co-captains Dan Curatolo and Mike Nylen. Their coach was Mr. Prank Walsh. This year the team qualified twelve gymnasts for sectional competi- tion and finished second in District. Sophomore gymnasts finished with a 10-3 winning season, with help from George Powell who placed first on the trampoline in the Homewood-Flossmoor Invitational. Their younger counter- parts, the freshmen, went undefeated 6-0. Kevin McGraw closed out the gym- nastic season with a first place in the state meet on the trampoline.
