Class History One bright September morning twelve years ago a group of wide eyed youngsters walkedinto the first grade room, Mrs, VanDeventer was there to greet them for these youngsters were the first grade, They were Dicky Adams, Keith Cameron, Larry Campbell, jean Draegert, Vonda Lee Garrison, Norma Grimm, Alberta janecek, Deanna Laux, Patty Moore, Verneen Ott, Fay Pfeaster, Leroy Strasser and Keith Tish, The second year saw both gains and losses, The ones who left were Dicky Adams Patty Moore, and Fay Pfeaster, The new members of the class were Harvey Calvin, janet Dalezal, and Milton Debuhr. In the third grade we had three losses and no gains, We lost janet Dalezal, Milton Debuhr and Vonda Lee Garrison, Next year fifteen proud students marched into a new room with Miss Eloise Geyer as our teacher, The new members of the class were jerome Altenhofen, Fritz Augustine, Larry Dugger, Richard Holman, Larry Hunter, Norma Lee Hunter, and Nadine Merz, The ones to leave the class were Deanna Laux and Verneen Ott, In the fifth grade we had no gains and one loss, Richard Holman left us, Our teacher was Bobby Rose Edmunson, In the sixth grade we gained one and lost two, This left our class numbering thir- teen--,Ierome Altenhofen, Harvey Calvin, David Dawson, jean Draegert, Larry Dugger, Glen Grimm, Norma Grimm, Gertrude Haines, Larry Hunter, Norma Lee Hunter, Alberta janecek, Nadine Merz, and Keith Tish, Mrs, Norma Dawson was our teacher, The next year we marched up the stairs to be greeted by Mrs, Zella Morton, our seventh grade teacher, We had two losses this year, We lost Larry Hunter and Norma Lee Hunter, and gained Marilyn Utt, There were no gains or losses during our eighth grade, This left twelve of us grad- uating in May from the eighth grade--Jerome Altenhofen, Harvey Calvin, David Dawson, jean Draegert, Larry Dugger, Glen Grimm, Norma Grimm, Gertrude Haines, Alberta janecek, Nadine Merz, Keith Tish, and Marilyn Utt, In the fall, of 1950, our bright faces were seen by everyone in high school, we were now the Green Freshmen? Gertrude Haines left us after completing the e'ighth grade. jean Draegert, and Alberta Janecek left us during the year, We now have only nine enter- ing our Sophomore year, During the year we lost two, Harvey Calvin, and Marilyn Utt, In the eleventh grade we lost two more of our class--Dave Dawson, and Glen Grimm, We have now just five in our class, During our Senior year we didn't gain or lose anyone, Now as we are graduating we are five in number--two girls and three boys--Jerome Altenhofen, Larry Dugger, Norma Grimm, Nadine Merz, and Keith Tish, Norma Grimm and Keith Tish were the only ones in our class who spent all twelve years here at Thornburg. Class Prophecy The year of 1965 rolled around before we were much prepared for it, but it was time for us to journey back to Thornburg and see what had happened to the Seniors of 1955, The town has been booming and we hardly recognized it when we stepped off the Rock Island Rocket at the new modernistic depot built on the site of the old red depot, We hailed a cab, and the cab driver told us that the town city limits have absorbed the large farm that used to be to the west of the city and that the city extends clear to the strip of black top that was a part of the road to Deep River, That strip of black top is now an emergency runway for the Thornburg Municipal Airport, We were delayed in cross town traffic for fifteen minutes but finally reached the magnificient Hotel Thornburg, owned and operated by Jerome Altenhofen, jerome also owns a large night club next door to the hotel, ln fact, he is known more as a night club boy than a hotel owner, As we entered the hotel, none other than Jerome should greet us, I-le seemed very glad to see us and had much to tell us about his business ventures and night club deals, He also told us that he was planning on getting married to the star dancer in his night club revue,
