The whole building has been redecorated and a new gym built. Seems we hear that the Thornburg girls had been the state champs for three years and the boys had taken the title thls season. We are assured that we are right. It is getting very late now and we leave the school. Wilma invites us to spend the night with her. when the evening paper arrives we are very surprised as we read the headlines. 'Minnie Souer President of Colombia col- lege, to speak in Des Mo1nes.NWe realize at once that it is our Minnie and we will be at that lecture if we have to walk. we arose early this morning, and as usual it is rain- ing, but that doesn't stop us. We arrive in Des Moines about noon and as the lecture is to be at one,we go dir- ectly to Drake University. After the lecture we wait to talk to Minnie, but we are forced to wait for an hour as she signs autographs. Then we go with her to a class- room where we can talk. She hasn't changed much, al- though, her vocabulary has increased enormously and we had to ask her several times to explain. She is wearing a very lovely dress, designed by one of her classmates Darlene Kitzmant Minnie, also tells us that one of her faculty members is married to our old friend La Vera. She tells us about the romance. La Vera met heruone and onlynat Iowa State Teachers College, in 1949, when she was studying com- mercial, and he was studying Zoology. Although this may sound like a happy romance from the first day they met, it was not. Did we tell you how they met? La Vera was pounding away at her typewriter out on the campus, when along came her future husband on his hands and knees, hunting for bugs. He almost knocked her over. After this first meeting he tried several times to see her, but she was not interested. They both left college the next year but the next summer they met again, under the same cir- cumstances, at a summer resort. That summer La Vera saw a lot of the professor and she soon became his bride. We leave Minnie and go to look over the town.In Younk- ers we find our'l1ttle redheaded sweetheart,W or Phyllis Bonnater doing some last minute shopping, before she leaves for New York. Phyllis is still raising calves and is now a millionaire, with a home in Flordla and a summh er resort in Canada. As yet no man has stolen her heart, but she blushes when we tell her we have been reading the social column of the papers. Then she admits that A, ,I , W1-.1-Y Y-V , .
