Silver Milestones of '46 Class History In the year of n1neteen hundred and thirty four a group of eleven first graders assembled m the Primary Room of Thornburg Consolidated School to begin their educatlon As they trudged down the hall and 1nto this room with shmmg faces and perhaps an apple for the teacher little d1d they think of the fact tha they were originating the Thornburg High Senior Class of 46 The begmn1ng class consisted of L1ll1an Jean Adams Roscoe Albrlghton Betts Lu Allar Chester Edmundson Norma Hermanstarfer Robert Molyneux Roger Mullen Helyne RODIDSOD Zelma Stanley B1lly Trager and Vernon Wilson Of this class two members are now in the present or1g1nal class They are Roger Mullen and Vernon Wilson In the second grade Lawrence Bos and David Sparrow Joined our number and later ln the year Marvel Leola Johannes was also a member However we lost L1ll lan Jean Adams Roscoe Albrlghton and Norma Hermanstarfer At the opening of the third grade Tom Orr Audrey Wells and Marilyn Cranston reglstered for class but Bill Trager Marvel Leola Johannes David Sparrow Helyne Robinson and Zelma Stanley were not present Marllyn was with us only until the first of March when her parents moved from the community With the first three years of grade school beh1nd us the fourth grade loomed ahead of us as another m1lestone to be conquered We m1ssed Chester Edmondson from our number At the beginning of the class this year were Loise Jean Merry field Don Morrxson Marvin Douglas Billy Trager Ronald Douglas and Phyllis Wodsworth Phyllis was only w1th us the first SIX weeks Proceeding onward to the fifth grade we find Bllly Trager Marvin Douglas and Donald Douglas no longer in our class but a new member Louie Souer who has continued 1n the class to also graduate this year Sixth grade roll call found Donovan Nanke in our m dst along with the mem bers of the last years class Advancing into the Junior I-hgh proved to be an interesting and exciting exper xence for We took our places in the upstalrs assembly The class then had the follow mg members Betty Lu Allar Lawrence Bos Lolse Jean Merryheld Robert M05 neux Don Morrison Roger Mullen Tom Orr Louie Souer Vernon Wllson and Donovan Nanke Betty Lu Allar left us in March of ou1 seventh year and in the eighth grade we With the beginning of another September in 1942 the eight boys and one girl from the eighth grade graduating class Hled in the assembly to find six more Creen Fresh es ready to Jo n the class The six new members were Marlvs Merck Hazel Kltzman Betty Sprague Lois Keller Harold Tuttle Laverne Erteld and later in the year Darlene Coats was also a member of the class Beginning our sophomore year Darlene Coats was no longer with us but we had a new member Robert Bowers During the same year we lost Willard Holmes Don Morrison and Laverne Erteld Bob Snodgrass Joined the class dur ng the year Back once again as Juniors we found Lois Jean Merryfield and Bob Snodvia s l'TllSSlI'lg lrom the roll but otherwise the class was the same The long awaited t me had arrived at last we were Seniors' ' ' l Max ne Homan Jo ned our group but we missed Harold Tuttle who had Jo ned the Marines a ter school was out the year be ore lt was possible later hat he could Jo n us again dui ing the second semester And so comes the end of the history of the graduating class of nmeteen hun dred and forty six and another class has been provided xx th one Ol th lm t cclu cat ons poss ble in the var ous cla siooms of Ihornl urg Con ol datcd School O - ' 9 . ll 77 ' ' ' A. , t . . . . , Y Y s , D , . , l , - Y 1 . . ? Silver Milestones of 46 up from duckmg we found on the car s floor a pxlot s cap wlth the name Loule Souers prlnted 1n it In addltlon to the name was also an address so we later looked up Louxe and gxve h1s hat back Not wantmg to mlss the eharm of the Near East we skipped over to Arabxa Ill our plane for a short v1s1t We reglstered at a hotel and who should be the hostes es but Mlss Cranston and Mlss Van Deventer Very graclously they gave us the best rooms In characterlstlc style though we found our beds to be floor mats The next day we went snoopmg to find some of Arablas well known harfms As we were 1nspect1ng some of the old bulldlngs we came upon a snake charmex ehantmg wlerd phrases Lookmg more closely mto h1s face we recognlzcd Tom Orl Abruptlv out o the bu ld ne n Lack a process on of beautlful glrls started fll ng Apparently Tom could charm women qulte as well as he dld the snakes After all the excltement of our tr1p thus far We declded to cool off IU the lr- frcshmg atmosphere of the Swiss Alps At length we secured lodglngs at a wry fashxonable hotel hugh IH the mountams The next day we all set out for an mvlgoratlng cl mb to the tOD of a neat by mountaln Huff ng and puffxng we steamed stead ly up and up Suddenly we thought a v1s1on was appearlng before our eyes for at the verv tlp top of the mountam stood a man fllrtmg vtlth a wltch on a broomstlck As me approached the wltch fllpped her broom around and fluttered nonchalantly away Immedlately we wondered who the man was so we rushed to the top ln a burst of speed Our mouths flevt open and we stood aghast as we recognxzed the curly mop of Lawrence Bos better known as Pete At length he told us that he would be a hermlt 1n them thar mountams untll men could get thelr lxpst1ck applled stralght and by the glxnt 1n h1s eyes he dldnt mean flrst handed To pass the tlme away he was looking over llkely prospects and thought some of them promlsxng espec1a1ly a certaln A hem who had just salled by Probably he meant the broomstlck r1d1ng gal we caught h1m Wlth Our next stop vt as exotlc France We were completely captlvated by 1tS quamt shops and the Parts fashlons One nlght we dec ded to v1s1t some of the nlght clubs In makxng the rounds we ran across one very excellent floor show The spee wlty number was an oomphey bubble dance number To our great shock the lttle tuck beh nd the bubble was Hazel KIIZIHWU Later on after the show she xntroduced the manager of the nlght club to us as her husband He told us that he had plcked Hazel for h1s wlfe out of all the beautlful g1rls around hmm because he needed a bubble dancer who could double for a secretary Of course Ha7el contrlbuted her suecess to her tramlng at TH S A llttle scout ng rexealed mother aequalntance sne was none other than out own Mlss Whyle Her oecupatlon we found was modellng clothes for Fash on Frocks Ine an ellte dress salon We must admlt that the dresses were fashlon able but why vtouldnt thex appear to be when they had such an mtrxgumg model Well from France we satled oxer to England Our first stop there was London As we walked down .1 eertaln street we not ced a s gn announe ng tne world s most famous 31tterbug team Smce th1s aroused our cur1os1ty we went ln to see a pe-rfor mance When flnallv the Jltt lbugglng stopped and the a1r cleared a lxttle vte reeog n17ed one of the parlne rs The team was none other than Marllxn Cranston and hex husband Wh lt made them so unusual was that M'1r1lyns mldget husband Jtter Y . . . , . . , . . 4 ' Z . . 1 ' I 1 i 2 ' ' J x I I . e , . . 1 1 I Q W . f I - L' ' , . x . . .
