FEATURING THOMSON HIGH SCHOOL- THUKTsON, ILLINOIS DEDICATION We, the graduating class of 1977 want to take this opportunity to show our appreciation to Mr. Gengenbach for all the help and concern he has shown, not only for us but for all students in THS during the years we have known him. He has given of his time freely, driving us to concerts, WIU, Swing Choir performances, and chorus trips. He came to all sports events, both boys and girls, not only as a principal but also a loyal fan. We found our- selves in trouble with him at times but he was always available when we needed him: to keep the lounge open, to promote girl's sports, and to set up and offer to us opportunities outside the walls of Thomson High School. To him — and to his family who are willing to let him share so much time with us — we the Class of 1977 proudly say: Mr. G. This book reflects what you are, what we have gained from knowing you, and what we hope to be. 2 WE EXTEND OUR APPRECIATION . . . To our advisors, Ken Brown (L) and Floyd Griffy (R) we say a big thanks for sticking with us through all the floats, paper drives, bake sales, class meetings, spook houses, bottle drives, corn pick-ups, and arguments over the past three years. Memories of these occasions along with those of our Gong Show and class trip to Nashville will stay with us and help us to remember you both — not only as teachers but as friends. October's high point was a Stanley party while November's activities included a bowl- ing party and the sale of Rosanna Gifts, one of our most successful money making projects. December brought us Daddy Date night on the 16th, January saw us sponsoring the sale of mums for Homecoming, and in February dele- gates attended the Region II rally where attention was focused on the State and Wanted: Healthy Babies. Our annual trip came about in March with visits to Hagger Potteries, Amling's Flowerland, the Smart Art Museum, and shopping at Woodfield mall. The highlight of the trip was attending Arlington Park Theatre's production of Room Service , starring Ron Palillo (alias Arnold Horshack). The month ended with the annual Parent-Daughter banquet with Mrs. Grace Harrienstein as speaker and Scott Durward as dream beau for the year. Our last meeting of the year involved installation of officers, a tribute to the seniors, and a special recognition for Miss Esther Schmaling, THS's librarian for 45 years. They won various contests, such as the Section II Paria- mentary Procedure Contest, had winners in the Section II Foundation Awards Program (John Clark, Jim Wherry); had a member (Dave Pilgrim) solo with the National FFA Band; and sent delegates to the National FFA Convention for the first time (Gene Habben, John Clark, Dave Popkin, and Scott Durward). They received the distinction of being the only chapter in the section awarded two State Farmer Degree winners (Dave Pil- grim and Scott Durward); and had the privilege of having Illinois State President Brian Elsasser address the group at their annual Parent-Member Awards Banquet. As the year closes, the members of the Thomson-Ful- ton FFA Chapter are busy serving agriculture with various tests on their experimental cropping project. CHORUS ACTIVITIES 1977 Thomas High School chorus was made up of 67 students. It's major activities of the year included the fun-filled production of South Pacific . The musical was a success for both performances due to the efforts of the entire cast and crew. The Christmas concert was the next big event for the chorus and in January and February work was done preparing for the Conference Festival held in Leaf River. The afternoon rehearsals with Dr. Roderick of I.S.U. ended in a concert that evening. The Solo and Ensemble contest in March resulted in 19 firsts, 2 second, and 1 third. The big event of the spring was the recording of a Thomson High School Band and Chorus Record. The record is the first to come from the THS music department. The annual spring concert culminated the year's activities with performances of solos, ensembles, and the full chorus. Special awards went to Teresa Meakins and Craig Dimmick and the National School Award went to Miriam Wagner and Dan Wiersema.
