We the Seniors of '73' after putting in our four years of education and after surviving; freshmen magazine sales, corn pick up, hayrack rides, successful dances, endless bake sales, pic- nics, fun fairs, worn out soles from Carroll County Review subscriptions, a spectacular Prom, four homecomings with fabulous first place floats, a Senior bus trip to Wash- ington, D.C. and finally a long awaited graduation. Present to our Friends and Faculty the 1973 Sand burr In Memorandum . . . May our thoughts fill this page full of memories for our friend and teacher, Mrs. Naomi Fisher, who served our school and cared for the students. Those who really knew her had to love and admire her and in those hearts she'll never die. Table Of Contents Dedication .................... Dombey K. Eagle THIS is your life, JUNIORS This was a very exciting year for the Juniors. One of our proudest accomplishments was taking first (in a tie) with our homecoming float. Hard work finally paid off. The event everyone worked the hardest for and en- joyed the most was Prom. It came off quite well except when it was discovered that the crowns were missing. It was a very successful year for the Juniors. C. Foster K. Gray R. Grim Class D. Oldani J. Simpson K. Stansbury S. Weber SHOOT! V. Houzenga W. James R. Hoy B. Hoffman B. Wilt M. A coat check was held at the Flea Market . This year the Sophomore float was quite an improvement over the last one, with Happiness is a Victory taking third place in compe- tition. Sophomore career day was rumored a success. Besides just having an all around good time during the year, the Sophomores planned and carried out a bake sale-car wash day with much success. Bruckner C. Domdey This Is Your Life, Freshmen Freshman year is always busy and this year was no ex- ception. As is the tradition at Thomson High School, the freshmen had initiation for a week. The Freshmen did many interesting things for the Seniors. One day they wore garlic, onions, and dill pickles around their necks. Another day, they did various things proclaim- ing Senior superiority. The fun week ended with an as- sembly on Friday of initiation week when the Fresh- men performed antics for the benefit of those who missed the antics during the week. After initiation, things were pretty quiet until after the New Year, 1973. In February, the Freshmen became infected with that dreaded disease, Float Fever. The Freshman float, A Victory is Scalping the Blackhawks, did not place but the Freshmen deserved an A for effort. As their first year in high school passes, the Freshmen can look back and say they had a memorable year. E. Dykstra G. Geerts R. Habben D. Halfman T. Hatheway G. Hartman P. Holmquist M. Hoy R. At every meeting we had a delicious meal cooked by the members. Ve held our annual Mother and Daughter Tea, and Daddy Date Night which was lots of fun for all those that attended. 1 his year our chapter was proud to have a sectional officer Rhonda Brown. We attended the FHA-HERO convention in Stockton 111. The Gospel Truth provided entertainment and then the group attended various classes about wedding planning’ cake decorating, ecology, fashion, and many more. We took two trips one to Dixon State School, where the girls toured the school and the facilities. On May 4, FHA-HERO went to Milwaukee Wis. where we enjoyed a full day of sight seeing. The girls also had an all night birthday slumber party in the THS gym. We played various games and ate birthday cake at mid-night. The party was a complete success with everyone leaving dead tired in the morning. We also had the annual FHA banquet for our parents and FFA officers, we enjoyed the meal and saw slides of the national convention and a fashion show of homemade garments made by the FHA members. Homecoming '73 started out on Thursday, February 8, with the cheerleaders hosting a yelling contest in the gym. For obvious reasons, the Seniors won. The evening ended with the announcement of the Homecoming Court and the 1973 King and Queen. Friday evening, the Trojans challenged the Stockton Black- hawks. At halftime of the Frosh-Soph game, the Homecom- ing Court was announced; the King and Queen were presented trophies. The Frosh-Soph game was a victory, 76-60. Be- tween games the miniature floats rolled onto the floor. Senior's float, A Victory is Beating the Blackhawks tied for first with the Junior's A Victory is a Grave Situation for the Blackhawks . The Varsity game began and at halftime was interrupted by the THS Band and the Pom Pom girls marching on to the floor. The Band presented various march- ing formations and quite a bit of entertainment was provided by the Pom Pom girls. The Varsity game ended with the score of 43-61. Tim Halfman Mary Calvert Don Schoening Laurie Waltrip Saturday night, February 10, a formal dance was held in our decorated gym with Ironwood providing the entertainment.
