Class pictures were taken September 18 and the annual staff immediately began their work by selling ads. To make money, we had a car wash, several paper drives, a coat check, and a basketball game starring the Harlem Magicians and the Thomson All-Stars. We also presented a play Mother is a Freshman in Nove mber. The Prom was May 1. The juniors presented the seniors with a delicious banquet and beautiful dance. The decorations were carried out in the theme, My Blue Heaven. May 7 and 8 were the dates of the long awaited senior trip. We left for Chicago bright and early Friday morning. Among the trip highlights of the trip were O'Hare Airport, Museum of Science and Industry, My Fair Lady, a nights stay at the Harrison Hotel, shopping in the Loop, and Brookfield Zoo. Baccalaureate was May 23. On May 28, our class graduated from York Community High School with nineteen members. On May 29 we regretfully left YCHS but we left with great dreams for the future. J. A. Everyone was thrilled when they arrived and wanted to show them off. We took care of concessions at the basketball games, which was our major moneymaking effort. With moderate difficulty, Don Morris, editor, and his staff managed to turn out a YORKSTER every six weeks. We had the distinction of having our candidates, Gary Buikema and Diana Daehler chosen as king and queen of the Winter Formal. Our play The Jury Room was presented on April 9. My Blue Heaven was the theme of the prom which we presented to the seniors on May 1. Junior Officers, Mike Weis, Gary Buikema, Don Morris, Carolyn Baker, Diane Daehler. Being Sophomores, we presented the annual initiation dance in which we forced the freshmen through nervous torture. Some of the highlights of the year included our waistline dance for which everyone went on a crash diet, but to no avail. Our Christmas play was a modern day version of Christmas. We never forgot Mr. Langheim who suffered from fear of the road every -time Charlene drove. Everyone had a lot of fun our sophomore year but we also worked hard as we had 25% of the class on the honor roll. We are now all looking forwar d to next year. Surprisingly enough we managed quite well and began taking everything in stride. Our first ordeal as freshmen was initiation. That night Mary Jo found out how many weiner lengths the gym floor was and Donna the number of squares on the ceiling. We are looking forward to next year when it will be our turn to lead the antics. Besides all of our activities, we took some time out for studying and our class was well represented on the honor roll. We had several exhibits at the science fair in which Lawrence placed first. Tournament. The cheerleaders worked hard in the fall to earn money for their new uniforms. They held a chili supper and a dance, and picked up corn and sold candy at the senior play. The varsity's new sweaters and skirts were matching purple while the frosh-soph's were gold. The new uniforms were quite an advancement over previous years.
