I e Q e e 0 3 WENTWORTH, DOUGLAS Boys Basketball 1 2 Baseball Football Mixed Chorus Boys Glee Club Class Plays F F A Class Officer Annual Staff HISTORY On September l l9L7, twenty little first graders walked into the Thompson Elementary School, where twelve years of education lay before them They were Norris Anderson, Paul Anderson, Boyd Lee Ayers, Louis Beckfield, Bonnie Bergstad, Wayne Escherich, Kenneth Harkness, Marilyn Helland, Karen Johnson, Sharon Keister, Delores Lehman, Beverly Lockrem, Robert Lura, Sharon Lura, Alan loser, Harlan Olson, Gary Peterson, Rodney Thorland, Linda Tinderholt, and Lynn Wilson The years passed quickly and soon we had completed eight years of grade school On May 19, 1955, twenty nine happy eighth graders received their diplomas They were Daryl Adams, Mary Anderson, Norris Anderson, Paul Anderson, Keith Bear, R1chard Chance, William Doyle, Martin Furst, Ronald Green, Gary Gunderson Kenneth Harkness, Karen Johnson, Sharon Keister, Kay Lockrem Carroll Larson, Delores Lehman, Beverly Lockrem, Sharon Lura Roger Olsen, Harlan Olson, Rosalee Parro, Gary Peterson, Franc1le Retland, Kathryn Schnebly, Rodney Thorland, Linda Tinderholt, Darlene Vrieze, Duane Vrieze, and Douglas Wentworth Our class motto was 'Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm Our class flower was the yellow rose and silver and rose were our co ors On a sunny August 29, 1955, thirty nine new students entered the time of our eighth grade graduation, we gained the following as new classmates Marlene Anderson, Arlo Aske, Robert Gunderson Roger Johnson Sharon Jordahl, Merlene Lee, Norma Nesje, David Olson, Darrel Pierce, and Patricia Solberg Durlng the second semester, we gained Wayne Smith and lost Duane Vrieze Perhaps one of the most unusual experiences we engoyed was the week when the boys took Home Ec and the glrls majored in Voc Ag This proved to be a hilarious switch' Other highlights of our Fresh men year were our class trip to Albert Lea and our party given for the Sophmores The time marched onward and soon we were no longer green freshmen but sophisticated sophmores During this year we lost Kenneth Harkness The highlights of our year 1956 1957 were our all school party, the 'Bunny Hop' given by us and our participation as waiters and waitresses for the Junior Senior Banquet Our Junior year flew by more qulckly than our two previous high school years We were no longer underclassmen and were busier than ever During this year we lost Richard Chance, Merlene Lee and Sharon Jordahl We gained Judy Garver and Irving Larson We were busy earning money for the Junior Senior Banquet which was given May 10 Our theme of this banquet was 'Sayonara' and our gym was converted into a lovely Japanese Garden 'Just Ducky', our Junior Class Play, was presented in October and included 12 members of the Junior Class. During the summer following our Junior year we lost Robert Gunderson and Roger Johnson On August 27, 1958, we entered T H S to complete our last year of high school. day spent at Mason City while having our Senior pictures taken, our pancake supper, our field trip to Josten's at Owatonna, the Senior Class play and attending, as honored guests, the Junior Senior Banquet at the Skyline.
