jChatom Rolls Over T'ville, 12-6 Coach Dovey Fair Anderson's Tigers lost their second game of the season to a very fast and de- ceptive Chatom team here Thurs- day night by a score of 12 to 6. Coach Roy Knapp's boys played 'alert and snappy ball all the wal and approximately 1,000 fans as thrilling a game as has been played here this year. Thomasville showed occasional spurts of of- lfensive power and managed to stop :the Chatom rushing attack most occasions, but the accurate .Chatom passes made the dif- .ference in the two teams. The Bull- dogs simply outplayed the Tigers land deserved to win. 1 Chatom drew first blood. when on the kick-off they recovered a Thomasville fumble, and on the Second play George Martin threw a pass from the 40-yard line that Don Lyles took in the end zone. This was all the scoring for the :first half. Chatom received at the uzeginning of the second half, and marched 80 yards in 10 plays tc 'tally when Martin drove over fror the 6-yard line. Thomasville came back an scored in the fourth quarter whei Ricketts scored on a 20-yard run around left end. Score by periods: Thomasville ..... 0 0 0 6- G Chatom ......... 16 0 6 0-I Fans are in for another tr Friday night when the Tigers the Jackson Aggies here at o'elock. Both teams have been de- lfeated and according to compara- ftive scores there is little dif- ference. Should Thomasville win this game they will be the undis- puted County Champions, having ,already won over Grove Hill and Coffeeville. Last Home Game Friday Night The Thomasville Tigers downed a fighting Butler team last Friday night on the latter's field by a con- 'incing score of 26 to O. Billy 'icketts'was hot, scoring ,three of e four touchdowns and adding 0 of the points after TD's. Cor- Hutto scored the other mark- 1 an end-around play with d blocking. The outcome of the game was never in doubt after the first few minutes of play, although the Butler team put up a game fight all the way. The Tigers looked ,much better defensively and of- fensively, although their pass plays still don't click. Coach And- -erson hasn't been able to un- cover an accurate passer from the material on hand- and the pass receiving has left much to be de- sired. Cordell Hutto kept up his excel- lent left-footed punting, and kept zhe Choctaw team back in their erritory most of the game. His ng spirals went over the safety an's head a number of times and le punt went out of bounds of ne Butler two yard line. Carroll Scarbrough nullified the nly serious Butler threat when he ught a TD minded back from be- nd to haul him down on the lger 20. A pass interception nulli- ied this Butler drive. Huey Cassi- ty played good ball in the Thom- asville line. Thomasville meets a very strong .Demopolis team here Friday night. They are doped to lose by several touchdowns, but it is Homecoming lat the local, school and the Tigers tmay be keyed up for the fracas with the Marengo boys. At any irate, it will be a good game, and the last home game for the Tiger eleven. l Buster Daniel Left Tackle Greenville Wins 5 Over Tigers W A very fine Greenville team fscored in every quarter Friday night to hand the Thomasville 'Tigers their' worst defeat of the '1949 season. The fihal score was 48 to 7, Ricketts scoring the only 'tiger tally. f The loss to Greenville gave 'Thomasville one of the worst ses- gsons in recent years with five llosses and five wins. They also ,lost to Evergreen, Chatom, Jack- Wson, and Demopolis, while winning wver Millry, Grove Hill, Sweet- water, Butler and Coffeeville. V Considering the material on hand, however, Coach Anderson :did a fine job. Few veterans were fleft from last year's team and his fmain quarterback was forced to ,give up football after the first ,few games due to a heart ailment. QAll in all, the boys and their coach 'deserve much credit for their .500 finish. They played hard, aggres- sive football in every game, and someof the losses could have been turned into wins with a break or so.
