Lville's next-oplpnent, but they a gteams, and Coach Anderson is ptarted in the first game. Jessie Walker Left End Tigers Drop First Game, 6-0 A very fine Evergreen team handed Thomasville a 6 to 0 de- feat in the opening game of thi W1949 season Friday night. The ir experienced Tigers held the Cor 'ecuh eleven scoreless until th final few minutes when they scor- fed on a long run after a fumbled ipunt. ' The Tigers didn't look too bad :except in the tackling department. 'Good tackling on their part might have given them an upset victory 'The blocking, while far from pe' fect, was better than usual for initial game, and will improve ithe season progresses. ' Coach Anderson was loud in his praise of two Evergreen backs, Rawls and Ryan. These two boys were the difference in the two xtearns. Cunninghame, a husky ,center weighing 195 pounds, was fthe defensive star for Evergreen. - Thomasville's Don Pugh drew praise from Coach Anderson for his fine defensive play and he will wprobably be given a starting s 'signment in the game with Mill lFriday night. Four of Thomasville's regu. Qstarters, Billy Ricketts, Cordi 1!Hutto, Kenneth Huggins an lLloyd Tucker, were on the side- i line for Monday's scrimmage. They 'suffered -severe lime burns in th: ,lgame Friday night, but should b fready to go against Millry. Little is known about Thoma 'ways have above-the-averagt orking his boys extra hard thi week in an effort to break into th in column. Only a few change -will be made in the line-up tha Snappe r Pugh Right Half Ta number of Ricketts' passes for his Cordell Hutto Left End Billy Ricketts Right Half Donald Pugh Quarter Back T'i-ille Wins Over Millry, 40-0 by James Allen Downey The Thomasville Tigers broke into the win column Friday night by trouncing a game but outclass- ed Millry eleven by a score of 40 to 0. Strong power plays and well executed passes' accounted for most of the Tiger tallies. Millry was unable to stop the line plunges of Billy Ricketts, hefty Thomas- ville back, and he accounted ff of the yardage gained. -H was ably assisted in this depart- ment by Donald Pugh, who also played a spectacular defensive game. Tommy and Bob Nichols Harrison were other outstanding stars in Fun Back the Tiger backfield. Carroll Scarbrough, at center, turned in a nice performance, as did Cordell Hutto, end, who nabbed Oris long gains. Coach Anderson used his entire quad during the game, and sev- ral of the newcomers showed up fell in their first test against ompetitidn. Thomasville meets Sweetwater Friday night in Sweetwater, in what promises to be an excellent game. Reports indicate that they have one of the best teams in sev- eral years and would like very much to hand the Tigers a lacing. Ailing members of the Thomas- ville squad have reeovered from severe lime bums received in the Evergreen game, and Coach And erson will probably be able to fiell his strongest team against th Marengo eleven. Wins Over Sweetwater, 26-0 by James Allen Downey The Thomasville Tigers, rate the underdogs, roared to a 2 0 win over a very strong Sweet iter eleven last Friday night o sr lat.ter's field. It was Thomas le's second win this seasot gainst one defeat. Sweetwater won the toss ani ccted to receive. Ricketts kick l off and the Tigers held fo -wns. Sweetwater punting to th idfield stripe. A series of lint icks and end runs carried thi 111 to the Sweetwater five ani ob Nichols went over on the nex' lay for the initial marker. The 'igers tallied again in the seconc uarter when tough Lloyd Tuckei 'oke through to block a Sweet- ter punt which was caught by 1 Pugh who raced twenty yards ound his right-end to score standing up. Billy Ricketts, driving Tiger back, was probably the outstand- ing ground-gainer and his power- ful line plunges enabled Coach Anderson's charges to add two more touchdowns during the second half. Cordell Hutto gained plenty of yardage during the night on well executed end-around plays. Thomasville looked much im- proved in the blocking department and the tackling was vicious at times. The Tiger line play was nuch better, especially on offense, md the backs were able to get ,hrough into the Sweetwater secondary on almost every play. Phe Thomasville air attack, how- ever, was woefully weak, and Zoach Anderson is devoting much of his attention to this department iuring scrimmages this week. Sweetwater was simply no 'natch for !Thomasvil1e Friday iight, although they showed' spurts if offensive ability. They have a umber of potentially fine players 1 the squad and their team should' lnrove as the season progresses. Wm-,-,

Nearly' 1,500 fans saw Thomasville crush the visitors in a one-sided contest, featured by powerful line thrusts and well ex- ecuted end plays. The Tigers did not take to the air a single time to score the five six-point markers. Billy Ricketts accounted for three touchdowns and Oris Harri- son and Tommy Nichols for one each. Cordell Hutto looked good on 9, number of punts, and Carrol Scarbrough broke up a number of Grove Hill passes.
