IILHSS HISTUHU School days, school days, dear old golden rule days, is a peppy tune we were taught back in 1938. This is the year that fourteen of the forty seniors of 1949-50 gathered in the Thomasville grammar school and started on their quest for good citizenship. This was one of the greatest events that we had ever experienced. This year Mrs. Hanson, our first grade teacher, began the first link in the long chain of our education here at Thomasville. She was the teacher who directed us along the right path and helped us get started off on the right foot. She instructed us on subjects such as: How to get along with other people that we are associated with, the importance of giving instead of taking and the importance of an education. The rest of our grammar school days were contributions and enlargements added to these fundamentals. The following teachers made it possible for us to sail through the next few years of our journey: Mrs. Decie Regan, our second teacherg Miss Frances Kerridge, our thirdg Miss Myrtle Rigdon, our fourthg Mrs. Earl Kimbrough, our fifth and Mrs. Alex Gunn, our sixth. These patient and understanding people are the ones who made it possible for us to enter the next portion of our education. Our seventh grade teacher was Mrs. Dovie Fair Anderson, Jr., who followed us on up to the eighth grade. Mrs. Nlassey Griffin was our ninth grade teacher. She was the one who secured for us the rare privilege of having our graduation exercises at night. Then the thrill of senior high school days came to us with the new atmosphere of really thinking we were coming up in the world. Mrs. Spinks, with her untiring patience, led us through the first rough waters that senior high school presented to us. Mr. Dovie F. Anderson. Jr., our eleventh grade teacher, made the year 1948-49 one long to be remembered. I-Ie, with the able assistance of Miss Frances Lou Brantly made it possible for our clas' 1 to give the seniors of that year a formal banquet. That was the greatest occasion of the year. Mrs. Haywood Wilson is our senior home room teacher. She helps many of her pupils in solving their problems concerning their futures. She has an untiring patience and is always the same, smiling and willing to help you in any way that she can. This year, 1949-50, is for some of us,the last link in the educational chain begun in 1938. This thought causes us to have a mixture offeelings-sorrow,because we are leaving the carefree school daysg pleasure, because we have achieved a long-sought goal. While this year marks the end of one phase of our lives, it marks the beginning of another. May the years ahead be as happy as those of the past have been, and bring with this happiness the full measure of success that the heart of each senior desires. Betty Glass, Class Historian 42
